Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different opinions about watching cinemas. Some of them prefer watching cinemas online as they find it satisfying. While some of them like the experience of watching cinemas in theatres and cinema halls.

Although both the views are valid, it actually depends on the viewers convenience. Due to the hectic lifestyle of many individuals and their rising workloads, they do not find it convenient to plan a separate time slot in order to go to a nearby cinema hall. hence, they find it easier to watch a movie online from the comfort of their homes. In the recent years, the number of people watching cinemas online has increased because of rise of OTT apps like Netflix, Prime etc.

However, there are a significant number of people who would prefer to watch cinemas in movie theatres with their friends, family or loved ones . They belive in preserving the culture of cinema . Along with that , these people actually enjoy the experience of watching movies in a theatre . Watching movies in cinema halls is actually profitable for the creators if cinema and economically viable for the entire movie industry.

The reason for this argument is, streaming movies in OTT apps increases the risk of piracy and leads to various losses for movie creators. Hence, movie creators also prefer to showcase their movies on theatres.

Considering all of these reasons ,cinema halls are actually important. Inspite of, the rise of online movie streaming services and OTT apps like Netflix which has made entertainment available online, cinema halls tend to play an important role culturally as well as economically.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both perspectives and make your own view clear in the conclusion: cinema halls remain important culturally and economically. The explanation of online viewing is relevant, especially the point that busy people value watching at home and the reference to streaming platforms. You also give reasons for cinemas, including shared experiences, cultural preservation, and benefits to the film industry. However, these points are not developed equally: the economic argument is asserted rather than illustrated, and the claim that streaming increases piracy needs explanation or an example. The opening also frames the issue mainly as a preference rather than directly addressing whether cinemas are still important. Develop each main reason with a specific example and make the comparison more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for online viewing, a paragraph for cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Contrast markers such as “Although,” “However,” and “Considering all of these reasons” help readers follow the discussion. At times, though, the progression is mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence fragment beginning “While some of them…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, and the second body paragraph moves from cultural value to profitability and then piracy without clearly showing how these points relate. Some linking phrases, including “Along with that” and “The reason for this argument is,” are repetitive or awkward. Use topic sentences to signal each paragraph’s main claim and connect supporting explanations more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “hectic lifestyle,” “comfort of their homes,” “preserving the culture,” and “economically viable.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “streaming” and “piracy.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “watching cinemas” is used where you mean watching films, and “creators if cinema” appears to mean film creators. “Cinema halls” and “watch movies” recur frequently, limiting flexibility. Spelling errors such as “belive” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions such as “watch films online,” “the cinema-going experience,” and “film-makers,” and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex forms, including a conditional-style explanation of why busy people choose online viewing and the contrast introduced by “Although.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. “While some of them like…” is a fragment, and “there are a significant number” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “The reason for this argument is” is awkwardly constructed, while missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent comma spacing affect punctuation. There are also run-on joins, as in “homes. In the recent years.” Work on complete sentence structure, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; careful proofreading would make the argument easier to read without changing its meaning.
