Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people argue that theatres and cinemas are not more important in the digital age, as people can watch all the entraintment online. Other argue that economically and culturally they are still important. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I belive that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.

In this digital era, where everybody has invested in internet, people can get any type of information online in no time. They can access and enjoy music of their taste anytime and anywhere, also they can watch series and movies of their preferences without waiting for them. People don't have to spend their money on tickets and travelling to theatres and cinemas, they can just pay small amount for whole month and enjoy entertainment on their own pace.

In contrast, theatres and cinemas are still working successfully as many people preffered to go to cinemas and theatres to watch all the entertainment. Specially students of colleges and universities often go to cinemas with their friends, they preffered to watch movies together and do fun with their friends. Many families also go to cinemas to enjoy their family time togther. In this way, cinemas and theatres presented our culture beautifully and also play an important role in state's economy.

I strongly agree with the poeple who belive that theatres and cinemas are still important both culturally and economically because to present our culture we need theatres to work on projects which helps our young generation to learn about our culture and its importance also cinemas and theatres crucially playing their role in the development of country by supporting it economically.

Overall, both views are correct in their own presepectives, as some people preffered to watch entertainment on flexible timings and in more relaxing place so they think there is no more need of theatres and cinemas, while other people who still values their culture and development of their country are still preffering cinemas and theaters and I am also on the side of people who wanted to see their country and culture grow over the period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear opinion: you support the continuing economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas. The online-entertainment paragraph gives relevant reasons, including convenience, choice and lower cost, while the opposing view is illustrated through students and families attending together. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that cinemas present culture and support the economy would be stronger with a specific example of cultural productions, employment or local revenue. Your discussion of online viewing also focuses mainly on convenience and does not explore its broader effects. The response therefore covers all parts, but develops some aspects more fully than others. (The 19 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Transitions such as “In contrast” and “Overall” help readers follow the progression, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, links within paragraphs can be mechanical, with repeated “also” and “and,” and the final paragraph largely repeats earlier claims rather than drawing them together. Some references are not fully clear, such as “they” in “they think there is no more need,” which could refer to people or cinemas. Use more varied linking and clearer references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital era,” “preferences,” “family time,” “culture” and “economy.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision. Examples include “entraintment,” “preffered,” “belive,” “togther” and “presepectives.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “do fun with their friends,” “on their own pace” and “supporting it economically.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make the expression less fluent and can cause momentary difficulty. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “because to present our culture…” and a contrast structure beginning “while other people…”. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “Other argue” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “they preffered to watch movies together and do fun” shifts awkwardly between verb forms. The sentence beginning “because to present our culture” is also difficult to follow because its clause structure is incomplete or unclear. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention as well, as in “pay small amount” and the long final sentence. Aim for clearer clause construction and check agreement, articles and punctuation.
