Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the digital age, some people assume that theatres and cinemas are no longer important, as people can watch all the entertainment they want online, while others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. People prefer entertainment at home now instead of wasting money on something they already have access to, and they consider theatres outdated. However, theatres play a vital role in promoting culture particular to one place, and cinemas do not affect the economy. My point of view here is that these days, theatre and cinema have high ticket costs and the availability of apps like Netflix and others is the reason people prefer home entertainment; however, reducing the ticket cost may show some difference.
These days, the younger generation especially has access to all types of entertainment, whether movies, documentaries, or cultural programs online, and they invite their friends to their own rooms to have the cinema or theatre kind of vibe. They also have the freedom to choose the show; if they do not consider it worth it, they will simply change it. Additionally, the high ticket price is also one of the drawbacks of cinema and theatre, and sometimes the movie and program quality is low, which makes a bad impression on people.
In contrast, the argument is that cinema and theatre are still important for both economic and cultural reasons, which is accepted to some extent. Theatre shows were famous mainly in the past due to their way of promoting culture and nowadays, as these types of shows are no longer watched can be the reason of adapting to other cultures.
To balance entertainment at home or online and at the cinema and theatre, ticket costs and quality control are required. And some organizations should be introduced that can support theatre shows that will help promote one's own culture .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and state a position: online entertainment is attractive because of ticket prices and streaming access, while theatres can preserve local culture. However, the discussion is only partial and several claims are not fully explained. For example, you say cinemas “do not affect the economy,” which conflicts with the task’s economic argument but is not supported or reconciled with your later call for organizations to support theatre. The cultural point—that theatre can promote local culture—is relevant, but the claim that declining attendance may result from “adapting to other cultures” is unclear. Develop each side with specific reasons or examples, and make your final position more decisive than the suggestion that lower prices “may show some difference.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to the case for home viewing, then a contrast and a concluding recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “In contrast” and “Additionally” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within and between paragraphs is not always clear. The introduction combines several claims, including that theatres preserve culture and that cinemas do not affect the economy, without showing how they relate. The third paragraph’s final sentence is difficult to follow, so the cultural argument loses direction. The conclusion introduces “quality control” and supporting organizations without clearly linking these proposals to the preceding discussion. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of task-relevant vocabulary, including “availability,” “drawbacks,” “promoting culture,” and “ticket costs,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “quality control” and “cultural programs.” However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or awkward, which limits clarity: “have the cinema or theatre kind of vibe” is informal, “theatre shows were famous mainly in the past” is vague, and “adapting to other cultures” does not clearly express the intended idea. “Cinemas do not affect the economy” is also an overly broad formulation. Aim for precise, natural academic phrasing and choose terms that express the intended relationship, especially when discussing economic and cultural effects.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “if,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. The construction “nowadays, as these types of shows are no longer watched can be the reason of adapting to other cultures” is grammatically incomplete and makes the relationship between ideas difficult to interpret. In “theatre and cinema have high ticket costs,” the plural subject also sits awkwardly with the later singular reference to “the reason.” The final sentence has a space before its full stop, and the conclusion’s sentence opening with “And” is less controlled. Practise building complex sentences around a clear main clause, then check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
