Student answer (Band 4.0)

There will be an ongoing debate about whether theaters and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. Some people think that threaters and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment, while others think that it is not true. I think that people can watch all the entertainmnet they want online but people often go theaters and cinemas. So, I will give my opinion in this regard in the upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, people can watch all the entertainment on mobile phones due to digital technology. They use televisions, computers and many other devices for watching all the entertainment they want. They use them while sitting at home with their friends and enjoy movies. They do not need much effort to go to cinemas and theaters. They use some apps to see movies such as Netflix.

While on the other hand, contrary to this, theaters and cinemas are not too much common in our society but they are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment on their mobile phones. But on certain cases, people go with their friends to see the movies which are not available on websites. They eat popcorns during seing the movies.

In the end, I would like to conclude this essay by saying that theaters and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online because they create a bad image about themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You introduce the topic and state a view, but the response does not adequately discuss both sides of the question or explain the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas. The online-entertainment point is repeated, while the opposing view is reduced to people sometimes attending films unavailable on websites and eating popcorn; these details do not develop the case for cinemas. Your final claim that cinemas create “a bad image” is unclear and unsupported, and it conflicts with the earlier suggestion that people still attend them. The response is also 193 words, 57 words below the 250-word minimum; the 56 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop a clear position and support each side with relevant reasons and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, so there is a basic attempt to organise the discussion. However, progression is limited: the first body paragraph explains online viewing, while the second repeats that cinemas are less important rather than clearly developing the opposing view. Connectors such as “First of all,” “While on the other hand,” and “In the end” signal stages, but some are awkward or do not show a clear relationship between ideas. The conclusion introduces the unexplained point about a “bad image” instead of drawing together the discussion. To improve, give each paragraph one clear purpose, order supporting points logically, and use linking phrases only where they accurately express the connection.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “digital technology,” “mobile phones,” “devices,” and “Netflix.” However, the range is repetitive: “entertainment,” “people,” and “watch” recur frequently, and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “not too much common” and “in certain cases.” Spelling errors, including “threaters,” “entertainmnet,” and “seing,” also reduce accuracy. These weaknesses do not prevent the reader from understanding the main subject, but they limit precision and flexibility. Build a more varied set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling; for example, distinguish between streaming at home, the cinema-going experience, and the cultural or economic role of venues.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You produce mostly understandable simple sentences and attempt some longer structures, such as “I think that people can watch all the entertainmnet they want online but people often go theaters and cinemas.” However, the range is narrow, and longer sentences are not always controlled. In “people often go theaters,” the verb pattern needs a preposition, while “people go with their friends to see the movies which are not available” is awkwardly structured. The opening also repeats a similar clause without adding a clear grammatical relationship. Practise combining ideas with accurate subordinate clauses and contrast structures, and check articles and prepositions. More varied, controlled sentence patterns would make the argument clearer.
