Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the development of technology, our world has turned into a global village. In this digital age, all categories of entertainment is avalible online. There are numerous websites avalible that can be used to watch moives. As a result many people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer significant. However, some people are of perspective that theatres and cinemas are of paramount importance in regards of economy and cultural. This essay discusses both views and my personal opinion is ellaborated in the end.

On one side, it is considered that apps and websites such as netfliex, youtube, HiTv, Dramacool...etc can be used to watch movies or series. It is argued that entertainment through these means is budget friendly and more relaxing. Statistics shows that snacks such as popcorn or drinks are sold in theatres in muuch more prices than they actully are. As people are not allowed to bring their own snacks, they are forced to buy it. Thus, it is believed that fewer people go to cinemas or theatres and they are no longer needed. Additionally, introverts feel uncomfortable in the company. consequently, they find watching moives at home a better option. In addition, watching movies at home does not require one to travel. Consequently, saving money.

On the other hand, a significant portion of economy come from theatres and cinemas. The money produced by tickets and snacks is huge in amount. Some people believe that they play a vital role in the peservation of the culture. For instance, recent research, ellaborates that the theatres of a country reflects they norms and culture of that area. Furthermore, some people are of perspective that, watching moives at home is of no comparison to watching it on a big screen in theatres.

In contrast, I believe that theatres are no longer vital for our society. while, theatres and cinemas are signifcant in regards of cultural peservation, same task can be achieved by museums. In addition, our world is advancing digitally. Nowadays, websites such as netflex or youtube are using subscription to generate ecconomy. In addition, home projectors has been introduced, through which one can easily watch moives at home. Thus, they are no longer necessory for our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: online viewing is convenient and economical, while cinemas contribute to the economy and cultural preservation; your conclusion consistently favours online entertainment. Relevant examples include streaming platforms, cinema snack prices and home projectors. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The economic contribution of cinemas is asserted as “huge in amount” without explaining its wider effects, and the cultural argument relies on a vague reference to research rather than a specific example. The claim that museums can perform the same cultural role also needs explanation. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a clear reason and a concrete example, and make the comparison between online services and cinemas more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The progression from online convenience to the continuing economic and cultural role of cinemas is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “On one side,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” help signal relationships. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting ideas. However, transitions are sometimes mechanical or confusing: “In contrast” introduces your own opinion rather than a direct contrast, and “Consequently” is repeated close together. Some references, such as “they” in the cultural discussion, are unclear. Use more precise referencing and vary transitions so the links between claims are explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “paramount importance,” “vital role,” “cultural preservation,” and “subscription,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “important,” “people,” and “movies,” while several inaccurate choices or collocations make the writing less natural. Examples include “in regards of economy,” “budget friendly,” “the money produced,” and “in muuch more prices.” Spelling errors such as “avalible,” “moives,” “signifcant,” and “necessory” are also noticeable and can distract the reader. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for this topic and proofreading spelling; choose precise terms such as “revenue” or “cultural heritage” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect clauses such as “As people are not allowed to bring their own snacks, they are forced to buy it” and a relative clause beginning “through which.” Most of the argument can be followed, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “all categories of entertainment is” has subject–verb disagreement, “Statistics shows” should agree with the plural subject, and “home projectors has been introduced” has incorrect agreement and number. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, such as “while” after a full stop and the fragment-like “Consequently, saving money.” Review agreement, sentence completeness, and punctuation, while continuing to practise complex structures with accurate clause connections.
