Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the digital age, people can access films and any other entertainment online. Some believes that theatres and cinemas are becoming unnecessary, other argues that they continue to play important role in society. This essay will discuss both views and i will add my view why i believe these places will remain valuable despite the growth of online entertainment?

on one hand, online platforms have made films convenient and affordable to watch. People who want to watch films remotely can do it without spending money on tickets or transport expense. They can watch it online in their own home. For example, Netflix is one of the famous online platform where you can get a monthly subscription at very low rate and can watch any of the movie available on the platform without and transport and ticket expense.

On the other hand, many individuals argue that traditional places are important because these provides jobs to actors, directors, technicians and workers. They also support businesses, including restaurants and shopping centers. Theaters preserves traditional performances, while cinemas offer a large screen with strong sound system. For instance, watching a highly anticipated film with huge crowd provides a cheerful environment than watching it alone on a small screen.

In my opinion, although digital platforms are convenient and cheap, they cannot replace theaters and cinemas. Both form of entertainments serves different purposes and can exist alongside each other.

In conclusion, online entertainment offers flexibility and convenience, whereas theatres and cinemas provide jobs and contributes to social and culture experiences. Therefore i believe that traditional venues will remain important venues in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear opinion: online entertainment is convenient, but venues will remain valuable. The examples about Netflix and the atmosphere of watching a film with a crowd are relevant, and you also mention employment and support for nearby businesses. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally: the online-viewing paragraph mainly repeats its convenience and cost benefits, while the cultural importance of theatres is only briefly noted through “traditional performances.” To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how venues preserve cultural experiences or why their economic contribution matters, and extend the online argument with a distinct point rather than repeating savings on tickets and transport. Your position is clear, though its reasoning could be developed more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “on one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant arguments. This is a strong organisational foundation. At times, however, the linking is somewhat formulaic, and the online paragraph repeats the idea of avoiding ticket and transport costs. The relationship between the economic and cultural points in the second body paragraph could also be made clearer. Use a wider range of natural transitions and organise each paragraph around a distinct main idea, with supporting explanation that progresses rather than restates.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “digital age,” “monthly subscription,” “traditional performances,” and “social and culture experiences.” These choices make the subject clear, and the reader can understand your main points. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “transport expense,” “at very low rate,” and “cheerful environment.” Some expressions are also repetitive, particularly “watch” and “important.” Aim for more precise phrasing and check whether words naturally combine: for example, describe ticket and travel costs as “expenses,” a subscription as “low-cost,” and the audience atmosphere as “immersive” or “communal.” Greater variety and more accurate collocations would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “although digital platforms are convenient and cheap, they cannot replace theaters and cinemas.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation limit accuracy. For example, “Some believes” should be “Some believe,” “these provides” should be “these provide,” and “Both form … serves” needs plural agreement (“Both forms … serve”). The opening also joins two independent clauses with a comma, and the final question mark after the introduction is inappropriate. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, and proofread articles and plural forms. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen your grammatical control.
