Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people argue that, when all the entertainment related stuff is available online these day, then what's the need of cinemas and theatres but some individuals think opposite of it. In my opinion, i support latter option.

On the one side, many believes that cinemas and theatres are no longer needed as most of shows are available online, but there is not truth to it. Cinemas play a fundamental role in society by generating a revenue that can economically benefit the country. For example, most of cinemas produce career opportunities for many people , where they can work even if its a job of janitor or ticket collectors. This can create alot difference in community.

Moreover, in most of the countries, cinemas has been a part of culture for many decades. In early years when there were no electronics available such as, mobile phones or televisions, people would go out to watch the shows. For instance, most individual breaks their repititive routine and go out with their friends and family.such system holds a cultural significance.

On the other side, other thinks that cinemas are no longer needed in this era where digital tools have took place. Some people do not enjoy watching a show in a crowd so they prefer to sit alone and relax, which is totally fine too

In conclusion, it is understandable that some of the people watch their movies or shows online instead of going to cinema but it doesnot mean that they are no longer needed. Cinemas will always be an important part of society by promoting dramas, shows or movies on international surface.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion in the introduction (“I support latter option”) and return to it in the conclusion, while discussing both online viewing and the continuing value of cinemas. The economic point about employment and the cultural point about shared outings are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the economic benefit is illustrated mainly through basic jobs, and the cultural argument focuses on past habits rather than explaining their importance today. The opposing view is also brief, with the preference for watching alone stated but not explored. To strengthen the response, explain each point more fully and make the comparison between online entertainment and cinema-going more explicit, using specific examples to support your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the views, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: “but there is not truth to it” does not clearly connect the opposing claim to the economic argument that follows. The contrast between the two views is also uneven, since the paragraph about online entertainment is much shorter and less connected to the earlier points. Some references, such as “such system,” are not fully clear. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and develop the two sides in a more balanced sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “revenue,” “career opportunities,” “cultural significance,” and “digital tools,” so the main ideas can be understood. However, the range is limited and several informal or inaccurate expressions reduce precision, such as “entertainment related stuff,” “alot difference,” and “took place.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “repititive” and “doesnot,” alongside repeated use of general words such as “shows” and “people.” Aim for more precise, formal collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe cinemas as generating employment or contributing to the economy, and use specific terms such as films, performances, or audiences where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional-style opening and clauses introduced by “as” and “where.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “many believes” and “cinemas has,” where subject and verb do not agree, and “most individual breaks,” which also needs plural agreement. Verb forms are inaccurate in “digital tools have took place,” and articles are missing in phrases such as “go out to cinema.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and the run-on ending “family.such.” Practise checking agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries, while keeping complex sentences manageable.
