Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern world, Everything has been digitized for ease of access. It is often argued that theatres and cinemas do not hold that much importance as everything is available online while other think that they hold a special place both financially and culturally. While both prespectives have merit, i believe that they are not as beneficial as they were in the past.
Those who argue that theatres and cinemas should still exist point out that people going to the cinemas helps the country financials as they are paying the studios that pay taxes whereas online streaming platforms such as Netflix or HBO do not have to pay anything to the governments of a country. Nevertheless, Theatres hold an important place in the heart of people who are related to arts. For instance, people belonging to institutes like National College of Arts on Pakistan have a belonging to the theatre culture in which they represent the roots of our country.
However, I find the opposing argument more convincing as everything being available online provides as with a ease of access for everything. Also, most of the people are not comfortable while watching movies with strangers at a cinema. They tend to enjoy their own company instead of trying to fit in with others. Moreover, with time, the cinemas have also gotten more expensive than buying online subscription to some streaming platform. As, a single movie at a cinema can cost up to $20 whereas a single screen subscription of Netflix costs around $5 and instead of getting a single movie, you get a catalogue of movies.
In conclusion, although theatres and cinemas represent the culture of a country but the way they represent the culture is defined by the movie not by the medium it is being shown on. Whether that be a cinema screen or a TV screen online.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both perspectives and make your own position clear: you find online access more convincing, while acknowledging cinemas’ financial and cultural roles. The examples about streaming costs and the National College of Arts help make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The economic claim that streaming platforms “do not have to pay anything to the governments” is broad and needs qualification or evidence, while the cultural point is illustrated mainly through one institution. Your opinion is supported more fully through convenience, comfort and cost, but the conclusion’s claim that culture depends on the movie rather than the medium could be explained further. Develop the less-supported points and make the comparison between the views more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the case for theatres, a paragraph supporting online viewing, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Nevertheless,” “However,” and “Moreover” help signal shifts in argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. The first body paragraph moves from tax revenue to cultural identity without clearly explaining how these points relate, and the conclusion’s final sentence feels detached from the preceding idea. There are also occasional unclear references, such as “they” in “they represent the roots of our country.” Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s focus and make pronoun references explicit; this would strengthen progression without changing the effective basic organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “streaming platforms,” “financially and culturally,” “ease of access,” and “catalogue,” which allows you to discuss the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “represent the roots of our country.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “country financials,” “a belonging to the theatre culture,” and “provides as with a ease of access” make parts of the argument less natural. Spelling and capitalisation are inconsistent, as in “prespectives” and “i.” Aim for precise, conventional phrasing and check spelling carefully. A few targeted improvements to collocation would make your vocabulary more flexible and convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While both perspectives have merit” and a longer sentence explaining cinema costs. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “other think” instead of “others think,” “provides as with a ease” instead of “provides us with ease,” and “a single screen subscription” where the article and noun phrase need revision. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: “As, a single movie…” is incorrectly punctuated, and the final sentence beginning “Whether that be…” is a fragment. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, pronouns and sentence completeness, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
