Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the digital age, people can enjoy different types of entertainment online.some people believe that theatres and cinema are no longer important because everything is available in internet. However, others think that this places still have economic and cultural importance. This essay will discuss both views and explain why i believe theatres and cinemas are still necessary.

On the one hand. many people think that theatres and cinema are becoming less important because of the development of technology. nowadays, people can watch films, dramas and other entertainment programmers on their smart phones, computers and televisions. Online platforms are also convenient because people enjoy their favourite programmes at home without spending money on transport or cinema ticket. For example, Netflix and Youtube allow people to watch a wise range of content at ant time. Therefore, some people prefer online entertainment to visiting cinema.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still important for both economic and cultural reasons. Firstly, they create job opportunities for actors, directors, tickets sellers and other workers. They also help business earn money. Secondly, watching a film on a large screen with high quality sound can be more enjoyable than watching it at home. In addition, theatres help preserve traditional performances and cultural activities. For example, people can watch live plays and learn about their country history and traditions. For these reasons, theatres and cinemas continue to play an important role in society.

In conclusion, although online entertainment is convenient and popular,I believe that theatres and cinemas are still important.Support the economy and help people enjoy cultural activities and better entertainment experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and make your position clear: online entertainment is convenient, but theatres and cinemas remain necessary. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons for the online view, including access at home and avoiding travel costs; the second covers employment, the viewing experience and cultural preservation. These points meet the task well. However, some support is brief or general: the economic point that venues “help business earn money” is not explained, and the cultural example could show more specifically how a performance preserves traditions. Your conclusion restates your opinion but its final sentence is grammatically incomplete, which weakens the summary. More precise development of these points would make the response more fully convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, while “Firstly” and “Secondly” help organise the supporting reasons. The reader can understand how the examples relate to the main points. Some linking is a little mechanical, and the conclusion’s final sentence, “Support the economy…,” does not connect grammatically to the preceding sentence, interrupting the ending. There is also a small amount of repetition of “theatres and cinemas” and “important.” Use pronouns or concise references where clear, and connect the concluding ideas in a complete sentence to make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “online platforms,” “job opportunities,” “high quality sound,” and “traditional performances.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range and precision are uneven, with several noticeable word-choice, spelling and collocation problems. For example, “a wise range” appears to mean “a wide range,” and “at ant time” should be “at any time”; “entertainment programmers” is also an inaccurate choice for programmes or content. Phrases such as “help business earn money” and “better entertainment experience” are understandable but not natural or precise. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations for employment, cultural heritage and the cinema experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause in “because of the development of technology” and a relative clause in “platforms … because people enjoy their favourite programmes at home.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. The conclusion ends with the fragment “Support the economy…,” which needs a subject and finite verb, such as “They support the economy…”. There are also errors in sentence boundaries and capitalisation, for example “On the one hand. many people” and “popular,I believe”; “this places” also has incorrect agreement. Improve control by checking that each sentence has a complete clause, and proofread punctuation, capital letters, articles and singular/plural agreement.
