Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern era, the debate over whether cinema and theatres remain relevant in the age of internet has sparked widespread discussion. While some people argue that these venues are no longer useful because of unlimited entertainment available online ,others firmly believe that these are still significant for both economically and culturally. In my opinion, both perspectives have merit, but I lean toward the latter because live, shared experience is not replaceable by online streaming. This essay will examine both sides before presenting a reasoned conclusion.
On the one hand, there are compelling reasons why some individuals support streaming because it offers convenience and affordability. The primary argument in this is that it gives approach to diverse content. For instance, a family watches a new movie together on Netflix for the the price of single person in theatres.
On the other hand, proponents of this side argue that cinemas and theatres offer jobs and boots local economies , which ultimately fosters thriving urban communities. For instance, London's end west attracts millions of tourist annually and supports the jobs of transport and hospitality. While there is distinct value in the former argument, I personally agree with this latter viewpoint because they preserve cultural traditions and identity , ensuring a more sustainable outcome of shared experience in the long run.
To sum up, while valid arguments surround both online entertainment and traditional venues , I reiterate that both are essential to our economy and culture. Balancing these two perspectives effectively is the key to addressing the overarching issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for traditional venues, linking it to shared experience and cultural value. The economic example about London’s West End also supports the case for theatres and cinemas. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the online argument is mainly about convenience and affordability, with only a brief Netflix example, while the cultural case is asserted rather than explained. The conclusion also shifts to saying both forms are essential, which makes your final position less precise than the preference expressed earlier. Explain more fully how online entertainment benefits audiences, and show specifically how venues preserve culture or support local economies.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To sum up” make the overall direction easy to follow. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. In particular, “proponents of this side” does not clearly identify which view is meant, and “the former argument” and “this latter viewpoint” make the comparison harder to track. The final claim that both are essential also sits uneasily beside the earlier preference for traditional venues. Use clearer references and connect each paragraph’s main point to your stated position more consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “unlimited entertainment,” “streaming,” “local economies,” “cultural traditions,” and “shared experience.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “gives approach to diverse content,” “boots local economies,” and “end west.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “tourist” where a plural is needed and “theatres” inconsistently spaced from surrounding punctuation. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your argument clearer and more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession structure (“While some people argue…”) and a reason clause (“because live, shared experience is not replaceable…”). Most sentences remain understandable, so errors rarely obstruct the message. Some grammatical and punctuation slips are present, however: “a family watches… for the the price of single person” has problems with articles and repetition, while “these are still significant” has an unclear reference. Commas are also misplaced or missing around clauses, and spacing before commas is inconsistent. Review articles, pronoun reference, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence to ensure its parts connect clearly.
