Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
During the technological age, many argue that cinemas and theatres are no longer important due to the availability of entertainment online while others believe that cinemas and theatres provide economical and cultural importance. I will be exploring both views and explain why I believe online entertainment outweighs cinemas and theatres.
On the one hand, cinemas and threatres have existed throughout history and represented an integral part of our culture. Experiencing live performances in threatres allowed us to engage with the characters, share emotions, and appreciate the different aspects of art, including the performance and music. Since then people mingled with arts which boosted our economy financially. Moreover, nowadays, people started to pay more for the best experience such as 3D screen cinemas or special sound effects.
On the other hand, the growing population posed a challenge cinema and theatre access. Every venue is crowded all the time, requiring the reservation of seats weeks beforehand and following the venue's scheduling . Meanwhile, online platforms allows instant access to movies and tv shows where ever and whenever you are. In my opinion, these online platforms revolutionized the entertainment industry. For example, due to my long work schedule, the only time I have to watch a movie is late at night, which is convienent as no other venue can accomodate me at that time. Furthermore, online platforms offer monthly subscription to access multiple tv shows and movies at a much cheaper price than cinemas or theatres.
In conclusion, there is stark contrast between those who believe cinemas and threatres are important while others don't. Some believe these venues reap benefits for our economy and preserves our culture, whereas others argue online platforms decreased the importance of such venues. In my experience, I would agree with the latter as online platforms are more inclusive to different people's lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for online entertainment in the introduction and conclusion. The points about live performance, cultural value and spending on enhanced cinema experiences represent the case for venues, while convenience and lower subscription costs support your view. These ideas are relevant, but they are not developed equally: the economic claim that audiences “boosted our economy financially” is broad and lacks a specific explanation, and the cultural argument could be illustrated more fully. Your personal example about working late helps explain your position, though the response would be stronger if it also acknowledged why shared, live experiences remain valuable despite online access. Develop each main claim with a clearer explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the personal example is placed appropriately within your argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, links between individual claims are sometimes abrupt: the move from live art to economic benefits is not fully explained, and “Since then” does not clearly identify the time or idea it refers to. The conclusion also repeats the contrast rather than synthesising the discussion. Use clearer referencing and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “live performances,” “integral part of our culture,” “special sound effects,” “instant access,” and “subscription.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use language beyond basic terms. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice or collocation errors reduce precision: “threatres,” “convienent,” and “accomodate” are misspelled, while “economical importance” and “boosted our economy financially” are unnatural or vague in this context. “Where ever” should be written as “wherever.” Aim for more precise collocations and proofread spelling; for example, explain that venues support local employment or cultural industries rather than relying on a general claim about the economy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “where no other venue can accommodate me” and a contrast structure beginning “whereas.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems are nevertheless present. In the introduction, “I will be exploring both views and explain” mixes verb forms; use “exploring … and explaining” or “explore … and explain.” In “online platforms allows,” the plural subject requires “allow,” and “people started to pay” would fit the general present-tense discussion better as “people have started” or “people pay.” Check articles and sentence punctuation too, as in “requiring the reservation of seats weeks beforehand and following the venue’s scheduling.” Greater consistency in agreement and tense would improve control.
