Student answer (Band 5.5)

a lot of people believe that the internet is a way for entertainement online from your home where cinemas and theatres are no longer needed. While others stress that cinemas and theatres are essential for the cultural and economical development.

I do think that cinemas and theatres are important for society, for me its a way to still be connected to the outside world in the digital age where everything is accessible from the comfort of your own couch.

Many people now suffer from a lot of mental health problems just because they haven't socialized for too long or didn't leave the house for so long.

nowdays even working could be done from home which causes a lot of troubles to society. It makes connecting with other people hard and connecting with the enviorement even harder. Cinemas and theaters used to be the form of entertainment that people gather together to attend. Let alone it's a form of art and showing identity. A lot of cultures like mine for exemple one of the big ways to advertise for our roots is by art and theater, the was the sits are arranged the sound effects the ambiance these are all things u cant get from watching a movie from your phone. The excitement of planning to go watch a show with your friends is uncomperable with online concerts, you get to drive there together sing an dance together make mistakes and learn from them get to know other people other cultures. Furthermore, festivales and theater days are one of the great sources for finance in a country it really helps with the economical developemnt of a state, For exemple in my country we have the carthagian cinematic days and the cathagian theatre days where festivals and movies are organized for most of the summer people come from different places and different countries to stay at the capital for this event, hotels gets packed and restaurants are full. every year this festival contributes to the countries economy. In conclusion its really important to attend the theatre and cinema and the govermant need to make it more accessible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your own position clear: you argue that cinemas and theatres remain important, especially for social connection, cultural expression and the economy. The examples of attending with friends and of festivals bringing visitors to hotels and restaurants help support this position. However, the opposing view is only briefly introduced in the opening, with little explanation of why online entertainment is attractive—for example, convenience, lower cost or wider access. Some supporting points also need clearer development: the link between working from home and the value of cinemas is asserted rather than fully explained, and the cultural example is difficult to follow in places. Develop both sides more evenly and explain how each example proves your point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable overall direction: it moves from the debate to your opinion, then gives social, cultural and economic reasons before concluding. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, the ideas are presented in one long block rather than clearly separated paragraphs, so the reader has to work to identify the shifts between arguments. Some connections are also abrupt: the discussion of mental health moves quickly to working from home, then to cultural identity. Several sentences run together, particularly the description of attending a show with friends and the festival example. Use separate paragraphs for each main point, and make the relationship between ideas explicit with clearer topic sentences and sentence boundaries.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cultural development,” “socialized,” “sound effects,” “ambiance,” and “contributes to the country’s economy.” These choices allow you to discuss social, artistic and financial effects, and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, spelling errors and imprecise or informal wording are noticeable, including “entertainement,” “enviorement,” “uncomperable,” and “u cant.” Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, such as “a lot of” and “a way to still be connected.” Aim for more precise collocations and a consistently formal register; proofread spelling carefully, and choose vocabulary that expresses the intended relationship rather than relying on broad phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “While others stress…” and the longer explanation of how festivals attract visitors. This shows an effort to connect ideas, but control is uneven. The opening “While others stress…” is a fragment, and the sentence beginning “nowdays even working…” lacks a clear capitalised start and has an unclear structure. There are also errors in agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “hotels gets packed and restaurants are full,” while several ideas are joined with commas or run together. Use complete sentences, check subject–verb agreement, and divide long explanations into shorter units. More accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
