Student answer (Band 4.5)
In this discussion I can say, it depends on people what they want I have a best example of my university life me and my friends loved to watch movies in theatres and cinemas because of the enjoyment, we had fun, moreover people now a days argue that we have netflix and all we are having fun at home why should we spent our money for that movie or show in cinema. people are spending their money for good food and coffee instead of theatres i shared my example it was about 2024 but now it actually changed, my friends now make plans for food, rides and adventure they says we don't have time to sit for 2 hours in the cinema and waste our money we can watch that show on internet i also agree because they are right, recently i went to watch a show in cinema it was actually feels like boring. on the other hand i got to realised people who are sitting overthere were enjoying the show may be it depends on the company, with whom you are going. culturally i would say it is good to go in cinemas to watch the show because mobile internet and cameras will not work so people will enjoy and will not distract. it is my opinion that it is a debate but we should study about it first what recent study shows now then we can come into the conclusion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You refer to both perspectives: online viewing is convenient and may save money, while cinemas can provide enjoyment and a shared cultural experience. Your personal examples about friends choosing food and activities over films, and other audience members enjoying a screening, are relevant. However, the discussion is only partial: the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas is not explained in enough detail, and your own position remains uncertain. Saying “I also agree” does not make clear which view you support, while the final suggestion to study the issue postpones rather than gives a conclusion. The response is also 7 words below the required minimum. Develop each side with specific reasons and finish with a direct, supported opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to move from your personal experience to the opposing view, then to a cultural point and a conclusion. Phrases such as “on the other hand” help signal a change in direction. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, and ideas often run together, making the progression difficult to follow. The opening sentence combines several points without clear boundaries, and the shift from your friends’ preferences to your own cinema visit is abrupt. Some links, including “moreover” and “because,” do not clearly show the relationship between the ideas. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and make each paragraph develop one main point in a logical order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “enjoyment,” “spending their money,” “culturally,” and “distract.” The examples also show an attempt to discuss modern viewing habits rather than relying only on generic statements. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as repeated references to “show” and “fun.” Some word combinations are unnatural, for example “watch the show in cinema” and “make plans for food, rides and adventure,” which make parts of the message less clear. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “attend a screening,” “stream films at home,” and “shared viewing experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas using clauses and reasons, for example “because of the enjoyment” and “because they are right,” so the response is not limited entirely to isolated simple sentences. However, sentence structures are limited, and many attempts at longer sentences are faulty or difficult to follow. The opening has several clauses joined without appropriate punctuation, while “my friends now make plans … they says” shows an agreement error. Other examples include “why should we spent” and “it was actually feels like boring,” where verb forms are not controlled. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses accurately and check verb forms, agreement, and punctuation.
