Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are numerous arguments between watching a movie at online platforms or in cinema. Some individuals say that in digital era, people can watch all types of entertainment online and there is no importance of theatres, while others argue that theatres still hold the value of culture and vital for economy.

In present era, technology has become too advance to watch movie at home with your family at online platforms and way more convenient. Online platforms, also known as OTT platform, provides a endless oppurtunity to people to watch all types of genre in movie with good price. Nowadays, android television has entered into the market with pre-installed online platforms to watch movie with your family at home itself. For instance, Netflix is one type of OTT app where you can watch any type of entertainment, series or movie, with affordable price.

Watching a movie in auditorium can boost wealth and holds the culture value of the nation. Government applies tax on ticket prices and food courts, present inside the cinema, which can eventually be used for the betterment of the society. Theatre plays like Ramayana or Mahabharta in India can give you inside knowledge about history, how people in ancient times were used to live and what culture they followed. For example, In India there are several drama are going on the topic of how india got independence from britishers and attending this play can give insight about freedom fighters.

In conclusion, although online platforms offer a wide range of films at relatively low prices, I believe that theatres and cinemas remain important because they contribute to the economy and provide unique social and cultural experiences that online entertainment cannot fully replace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and make your own position clear in the conclusion: cinemas remain important for economic, social and cultural reasons. The examples of online viewing and Indian theatre give the response relevant support. However, the two views are not developed equally. The case for online platforms is explained mainly through convenience, affordability and Netflix, while the economic argument for cinemas is asserted through ticket taxes without showing its wider impact. The cultural example is more specific, but could be linked more directly to why live theatre matters today. This meets the task well overall; to strengthen the response further, extend each main idea with clearer explanation and ensure the discussion of both views is comparably developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for online entertainment, one for theatres and cinemas, and a conclusion that restates your view. This makes the progression easy to follow, and examples are generally placed alongside the ideas they support. The contrast between the two positions is also clear. Some connections within paragraphs are less smooth, however: the move from cinema ticket taxes to theatre plays shifts from economics to culture without a linking explanation. Phrases such as “For instance” and “For example” help signal evidence, but the response relies on a fairly predictable pattern. More explicit links between claims and examples, and a transition showing how the economic and cultural points relate, would make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “digital era,” “OTT platform,” “auditorium,” “ticket prices,” and “freedom fighters,” so the reader can understand the main points. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “pre-installed online platforms” and “cultural value.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward: “boost wealth,” “holds the culture value,” and “inside knowledge” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “oppurtunity,” “Mahabharta,” and “britishers” also reduce accuracy. The range is sufficient to communicate the argument, but greater control of common collocations and accurate spelling would make the vocabulary more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “although online platforms offer a wide range of films … I believe…” and the relative clause “where you can watch…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “technology has become too advance” has an incorrect adjective form, and “OTT platform … provides a endless opportunity” has agreement and article errors. There are also problems with plural and sentence structure in “there are several drama are going on,” while “how people in ancient times were used to live” uses an awkward verb construction. Work on subject–verb agreement, articles, plural forms and verb patterns, then proofread sentence boundaries and capitalization. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
