Student answer (Band 5.5)

It often argued that importance of cinemas have been dramatically decreasing. Most people thinks that these are still important economically and culturally in today's world.

Here we are going to discuss both views.

According to many people, there is no longer need of cinema because nowadays, the majority has their phone and they prefer to watch movies on phone. Instead of going cinemas or theatres. Moreover, they think that it is just waste of money and time to buy ticket for watching movies or that content which is available on your mobile phone. Instead of going cinemas, you can watch anything peacefully at your home with eating snacks.

On the other hand, most people thinks differently. In their opinion, theatres and cinemas playing crucial role in economic and cultural development. For instance, most cinema houses are funded by the government. They have to give some amount to the government from their profit. Additionally, they pay taxes. Moreover, these are best ways to promote a state culture. The government can exchange actors to other state.

From my perspective these are still important. Nowadays, we do not have much time for each other because of digital technology. These types of activities give us opportunities to spend time with each other. To go cinemas with your family or friends is not waste of time or money wastage. We can make a lot of memories together. Moreover, we can also promote our culture as well. In nutshell, we should promote cinemas and theatre of our country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your own position clearly: you explain that online viewing is convenient and less costly, then argue that cinemas support economic and cultural life and provide shared experiences. These points are relevant to the question. However, some support is unclear or under-developed. For example, the claim that cinema houses give money to government and pay taxes is not explained in terms of their wider economic contribution, while “exchange actors to other state” does not clearly show how cinemas promote culture. Your personal view is consistent, but the essay would be more convincing if each main point were explained with a specific example and the cultural and economic arguments were developed more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Signposting such as “On the other hand” and “From my perspective” helps readers follow the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “Moreover” and several ideas placed next to one another without showing their relationship. The opening sentence, “Here we are going to discuss both views,” adds little to the argument, and “In nutshell” introduces the conclusion abruptly. Some references, such as “these” and “they,” are not always precise. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and organise each body paragraph around one developed central idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital technology,” “economically and culturally,” “government,” and “promote our culture.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “crucial role” and “cultural development.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “importance of cinemas have been dramatically decreasing,” “waste of money and time,” and “money wastage” are examples. “Exchange actors to other state” is also unclear. Aim to learn common word partnerships and use them accurately, rather than repeating general terms such as “important” and “promote.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “that,” and most of your meaning can be understood. However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “importance of cinemas have” has a singular subject with a plural verb, while “Most people thinks” should use a plural verb. “There is no longer need” is missing an article, and “Instead of going cinemas or theatres” is an incomplete sentence. The sentence beginning “To go cinemas with your family” also needs a preposition. Work on checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause; this will improve accuracy while allowing you to retain varied structures.
