Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some argue that theatres and cinemas are no longer needed, as world is shifting toward digital platforms, however, others oppose to that. They believe that cinemas and theatres hold a cultural and economic significance. From my perspective, i agree to the first statement.
On the one side, mostly people browse internet to watch their favourite show at home rather than going out to cinemas. For example, younger generation finds it convenient and time saving as they do not have to leave their comfort zone, instead they watch entertainment stuff on online streaming platforms.
Furthermore, they can watch their dramas or plays on repeat whenever they find time for themselves. For instance, working people do not enjoy to go to theatres for play by paying hefty amount.
On the other side, it is true that cinemas and theatres have always been a part of our culture. Historically, elder people would go to cinemas and theatres for entertainment purposes. In addition, such places hold job opportunities for many people even if it has to a ticket collector.
In conclusion , there is a fundamental importance to cinemas and theatres but in digital world where thing is accessible and convenient for people , i agree that they are no longer needed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for online entertainment in the introduction and conclusion. The response also gives relevant reasons, including convenience for younger people, repeat viewing, and employment at theatres. However, the discussion is only partial and the ideas are under-developed: the cultural point is mainly that older people historically attended these venues, without explaining how they continue to shape culture today. The economic argument is also limited to a brief mention of ticket collectors, and the opposing view is not explored in much depth. The response is 208 words, below the required 250, which restricts how fully you can explain and support your points. Develop each side with specific examples and explain your reasoning more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one side,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several points are presented as short statements rather than being linked through explanation or examples. The opening sentence also joins contrasting ideas with a comma, making the relationship between them less clear. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and the conclusion repeats the position without drawing together the discussion. Build clearer links between each claim and its support, and use referencing and transitions more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “digital platforms,” “cultural and economic significance,” “convenient,” and “job opportunities,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “comfort zone” and “hefty amount.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “oppose to that,” “entertainment stuff,” and “do not enjoy to go.” “Even if it has to a ticket collector” is also unclear and makes the employment point difficult to understand. The vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main ideas, but greater precision and more natural collocations would improve the response. Practise topic-specific phrases for access, cultural value, and employment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in “as world is shifting toward digital platforms” and a reason clause beginning “as they do not have to leave.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but errors occur in articles, verb patterns, agreement, and punctuation. Examples include “as world is shifting” (missing an article), “people do not enjoy to go” (incorrect verb pattern), and “where thing is accessible” (singular agreement and article problems). The opening sentence uses a comma splice, while capitalisation of “i” is inconsistent. These issues show that complex forms are attempted but not yet controlled consistently. Review article use and verb patterns, and proofread sentence boundaries and capitalisation.
