Student answer (Band 6.0)

While it is undeniable that technology has impacted our lives in ways we consume content created for entertainment purposes, the traditional norms to watch it still persist. There are strong arguments for and against it.

Those who prefer to experience watching movies online argue that having a hold of device and choosing to watch whatever you want is no less than a luxury provided through technology. All an individual has to do is just buy a membership of streaming application and they get going with it, while staying in the comfort of their house. Furthermore, there is a great variety of social media giants offering a range of different movies, series and so on. This market has become so huge that any company which is not able to bring up creative and immersive content every little while, will end up getting behind and discarded. were there not any competition between online businesses, there would be no latest content coming up to the consumer. For exmple, netflix and prime video are competing in providing the users with best streaming experience within a less costly prices. This competition encourages these upscale businesses to enhance the quality as well as the quantity of their content.

On the other hand, people who like to watch a movie in theatre contend that cinemas provide them a wholesome experience where not only can they take a full pleasure of a show together but also foster friendliness among themselves, keeping the spirit of a community alive.

In my opinion, cinema is one of a few hubs of social gathering that must be kept full and dynamic in order to keep the culture alive. Economically, it does not contribute as government get to earn sufficient amount of money by imposing taxes on online apps.

In conclusion, although online apps provide the comfort, cinemas is essential for culture. So one must take the opportunity to get together with the people of their as well as other communities to enhance their experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear preference for cinemas, particularly in the conclusion and the paragraph beginning “In my opinion.” The online-view paragraph gives relevant reasons, including convenience, choice and competition between streaming services. However, the cinema argument is much less developed: the “wholesome experience” and community benefits are asserted but not illustrated or explained in detail. The economic part of the task is also not fully addressed. You mention taxes from online apps, but do not explain the economic contribution of theatres and cinemas, despite this being part of the opposing view in the prompt. Develop both sides more evenly and support your position with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” helps readers follow the discussion. Within the online paragraph, however, several points are packed together, and the shift from competition to the example of Netflix and Prime Video could be more smoothly connected. The cinema paragraph is brief compared with the preceding one, so the discussion feels unbalanced. Some references are also unclear, particularly “it” in the opening and “their” in the final sentence. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “streaming application,” “immersive content,” “competition,” and “social gathering.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an effort to be precise. However, several collocations or word choices are unnatural, such as “having a hold of device,” “get going with it,” “full pleasure,” and “keep the culture alive.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “exmple,” “netflix,” and “less costly prices.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce naturalness and precision. Aim for established phrases such as “access to a device,” “enjoy the experience,” and “at a lower cost,” and check spelling and capitalization.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the conditional “were there not any competition…” and the inversion in “not only can they… but also…”. This gives the response some variety, and the main meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “a hold of device” is missing an article, “they get going” shifts awkwardly in subject and tense, and “cinemas is essential” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Economically” also has an unclear construction: “it does not contribute as government get to earn…” Revise sentences for agreement, articles and complete, logically connected clauses, while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
