Student answer (Band 5.5)
With the advancement of digital age, many people argue that theatres and cinemas have no significance because people watches all entertainment online. While, others believe that they are still important both economically and culturally. This essay focuses on both aspects but I strongly belive that theatres and cinemas hold significant importance.
It is true that, with the advancement of technology, people finds it easy to watch all the entertainment they want online without visiting theatres and cinemas. They believe that it saves time and they can see everything sitting from the comfort of their homes without having to travel anywhere. For example, if any new movie comes then it becomes easy for the people to watch online because they can watch it at their own pace and time without sitting for 2-3 hours in theatres and cinemas.
On the other hand, to get the real and fulfilling experience some people go to theatres and cinemas. In both the scenarios, people needs to pay, and this will help to grow our economy. Furthermore, we can make new connections with people meeting in theatres and cinemas which we cannot make online.
In my opinion, theatres and cinemas are equally important both economically and culturally because it helps to develop overselves in a more positve mindset. Sometimes, watching online affects our eyes while in cinemas and theatres, this would not be a problem.
In conclusion, despite of some advantages of watching it online, I believe that it would be much better to watch it in theatres and cinemas for better visibility and overall development of economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear preference in the introduction: you believe theatres and cinemas “hold significant importance.” The response also gives relevant reasons, including convenience at home, the in-person experience, and economic benefits. However, the discussion is unevenly developed. The online-view paragraph explains convenience, but the example about watching a new movie at one’s own pace is not fully clarified. The economic and cultural case is less convincing: “people needs to pay” does not explain how venues support the economy, and the point about making connections is only briefly stated. The claim about eye health is also asserted without support. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or specific example, and make the cultural argument more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some connections between ideas are not fully explained. For instance, the move from paying for cinema tickets to “grow our economy” needs a clearer link, while the point about meeting people shifts quickly to the cultural value of venues. The opinion paragraph also repeats the position rather than developing it with a distinct supporting reason. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including phrases such as “comfort of their homes,” “real and fulfilling experience,” and “economically and culturally.” The meaning is generally clear, but word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “no significance” is less natural than “no longer relevant,” and “develop overselves in a more positve mindset” is unclear and contains spelling errors. “Better visibility” does not precisely express the intended benefit of watching in a cinema, and repeated use of “theatres and cinemas” limits variety. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary, such as “shared viewing experience,” “cultural venues,” and “contribute to local employment,” while checking spelling and natural word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening with “While” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most sentences remain understandable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction, and punctuation recur. Examples include “people watches” and “people finds,” where plural subjects need plural verb forms, and “people needs to pay,” which has the same agreement problem. The opening “While, others believe…” is incorrectly punctuated and forms an incomplete contrastive structure. There are also awkward constructions such as “they can see everything sitting from the comfort of their homes.” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building complete clauses; then vary sentence patterns while keeping each relationship between ideas grammatically clear.
