Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer crucial in the modern age, as people watch all the entertainment on online platforms, while others argue that they are still important economically and culturally in both ways. I agree with the latter statement that, although every movie is telecast online, entertainment purposes still give us a shared social experience and support local culture.
On the one hand, theatres and cinemas are no longer important in this modern era, as people watch them online without wasting time and money. This can lead to saving money for other needs and looking after their families. As a result, families and children can have personal time to concentrate on other work. For instance, low-income families do not go theatres by spending their money, instead they watch in television or online platform in free of cost.
On the other hand, entertainment purposes are still crucial in both ways, economically and culturally. This is because watching a movie alongside a live crowd lets you share collective emotions- laughter, crying, applause- and supports local businesses and the cinema industry, and turns a simple outing into a lasting memory. For example, FDFS (First Day, First Show)is selectively made for individuals who are crazy about movies to immediately watch in theatrical release. As a result, people are stress-free from their busy lifestyle and have more dopamine.
In conclusion, although movies are available online and considered irrelevant in modern society, these entertainment sources can give us smooth theatre-watching experiences and support their local culture to grow in the industry.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for the continuing importance of theatres and cinemas. The second body paragraph gives relevant cultural and economic reasons, including shared audience reactions and support for local businesses, and the FDFS example adds some specificity. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for online viewing mainly concerns saving time and money, while the economic and cultural claims for cinemas are asserted more than explained. The conclusion also introduces “smooth theatre-watching experiences,” which does not clearly summarise your argument. To strengthen the response, explain the wider economic effects, such as jobs or revenue for local venues, and clarify how your examples support your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections between ideas are less clear, however. In the first body paragraph, the move from saving money to families having “personal time to concentrate on other work” is not fully explained. The second paragraph combines audience emotions, local businesses, the film industry, memories, and stress relief in one long sequence, so the main point becomes diffuse. Use clearer topic sentences and develop one or two related points at a time; also make the conclusion refer directly to the economic and cultural arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “shared social experience,” “collective emotions,” “local businesses,” and “the cinema industry.” These phrases help communicate the topic, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “in both ways,” “telecast online,” “watch in television,” and “have more dopamine.” “Entertainment purposes” is also repeated and does not fit naturally in every context. Aim for more accurate collocations and choose wording that expresses your intended point precisely—for example, distinguish between watching films online and attending a cinema, and describe the emotional or social benefit directly rather than using a medical term. This greater control would make your vocabulary more effective and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the opening contrast with “while” and the concession “although every movie is telecast online.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “low-income families do not go theatres” is missing an article and a preposition, and “they watch in television” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. In “FDFS … is selectively made,” the passive construction does not clearly express who organises the event, while the spacing and punctuation around “(First Day, First Show)is” also need attention. Practise accurate article use, prepositions, and sentence boundaries, and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb. This will improve control without limiting your use of complex sentences.
