Student answer (Band 4.5)

Digital age has become an increasingly important issue in recent years. While some people belive that due to change in digital tools cinemas and theatres are no longer vital as people can watch all the entertainment they want in online platfrom.Others aruge that all offline placeses are stil have important both economically and culturally. Although both perspectives have merit,I tend to agree with theatres and cinemas are still important for economically and culturally because these are not just place for watching movies some people use them as there hangout place with friends and they helps to get a good return for production houses.

To begin with, one of the main reasons for this view is that this place helps people to connect outside their phones. In particular, today no one wants to live their house to hang out with their family and friends, they belive there are not a single best place to visit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a relevant position: you agree that theatres and cinemas remain important for economic and cultural reasons, and you begin to explain their social value by describing them as places to meet friends. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: the view that online entertainment makes venues less important is not explained, and the economic and cultural claims are not supported with examples or developed reasoning. The final sentence is also incomplete, so the discussion stops before these points can be clarified. The response contains 143 words, which is 107 words below the required minimum of 250; this leaves too little space to discuss both views and support your opinion. Develop each side in separate paragraphs and add specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the two positions and gives your opinion, while “To begin with” signals the start of a supporting point. This provides some paragraph structure, but there is no clear overall progression because the response ends during its first body paragraph and does not develop the opposing view or a conclusion. Linking is limited and sometimes awkward; for example, “Although both perspectives have merit” introduces a contrast, but the sentence then combines several reasons without showing how they relate. The final clause, “they believe there are not a single best place to visit,” is difficult to follow. Use a clear sequence of paragraphs and connect each claim to its explanation or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “digital tools,” “economically,” “culturally,” and “production houses,” and the reader can identify your main topic and position. However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “belive,” “platfrom,” “aruge,” and “offline placeses.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “watch … in online platform” and “get a good return for production houses.” Aim for accurate collocations and a wider range of terms for the two sides of the discussion, such as streaming services, ticket revenue, and shared cultural experiences. Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural phrases would make your ideas clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a complex opening sentence using “While” and “Although,” which shows some awareness of how to express contrasting views. However, the response relies on a narrow range of structures, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “theatres and cinemas are still important for economically and culturally” has an incorrect grammatical pattern; “some people use them as there hangout place” has problems with pronoun form, number, and article use; and “they helps” has subject–verb disagreement. The final sentence is incomplete, and punctuation is inconsistent, including missing spaces after full stops. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
