Student answer (Band 5.0)
In todays modern age, We do most of our work at home or online beacuse of the modern technology. In this digital era people prefer staying at home because they can find so much on the internet for free and watch whatever they can according to there mood. Now a days we have netflix, HBO, Disney+ and many other applications which provide different series and movies some of them are there original creations. so, we've varity of genres to watch at home. But personally i like to go out to watch movies with my friends and family, because you can spend a good time with them also its a great source of outing and also the lighting the screen and sounds in the cinema is much more enjoyable in the cinema than at home. And also all the new movies releases in the cinema first and after some time they get uploaded on the internet so you've the opportunity to watch it at the time of releae rather than waiting a month or so for its upload on the internet. I do watch movies at home alot almost daily, but i also prefer to go watch horror movies at cinema twice in a month with one of my friend. She's also fond of horror movies, they feel more scary in cinema because of the dark room and the loud sounds also how can you forget the cinema popcorns & nachos? So i think theatres and cinemas are equally important because its a great source of entertainment, and people can enjoy eacother's company rather than staying and watching movies alone at home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear personal view that cinemas and theatres remain important, and your examples about watching horror films with a friend and enjoying the large screen and sound support that position. You also refer to the convenience and variety of online platforms, so both sides are present. However, the discussion is weighted heavily towards your own experience and the benefits of cinema. The opposing view is mostly limited to watching at home for free and choosing content to suit one’s mood; the economic and wider cultural importance of venues is not really explored. To strengthen the response, develop both arguments more evenly, for example by explaining how streaming saves time or money, and how cinemas support jobs, local businesses, or shared cultural experiences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable progression from online entertainment to your preference for cinema and then to your conclusion. However, it is presented as one long paragraph, so the reader has little visual guidance through the two views and your opinion. Many ideas are joined with repeated “and also,” “because,” and “so,” which makes the development feel list-like rather than clearly staged. Some references are also unclear, such as “they feel more scary,” where “they” could refer to the films or the cinemas. Use separate paragraphs for the online view, the continuing value of cinemas, and your conclusion. Vary linking expressions and make pronoun references explicit to create clearer progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “digital era,” “genres,” “original creations,” and “source of entertainment.” The examples of streaming services and cinema features also make the response specific. However, the range is limited by frequent repetition of basic words such as “watch,” “movies,” “home,” and “cinema,” and several choices or spellings are inaccurate, including “varity,” “releae,” and “cinema popcorns.” Some phrases are also awkward, such as “a great source of outing” and “at the time of release.” Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling and collocations. For instance, you could use “a leisure activity” and “cinema snacks” in place of the less natural phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences using clauses with “because,” “which,” and “rather than,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, sentence structures are often joined together without clear punctuation, as in the opening sequence beginning “In todays modern age” and the extended sentence about cinema releases. There are also recurring errors in sentence boundaries, capitalization, and grammatical forms: “In” is capitalised after a comma, “people prefer staying” would be more natural as “people prefer to stay,” and “one of my friend” needs a plural noun. The range remains fairly limited, and complex sentences are not consistently controlled. Practise separating ideas into complete sentences and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
