Student answer (Band 5.5)

In a survey, people says that old theatres and cinemas do not matter that much as they can view all kind of entertainment stuff online at home or anywhere. Some criticise others opinion with theatres and cinemas still carry influence economically and culturally. I agree with both judgements.

If we talk about people, who do not find interest or time going to the cinemas and theatres then they are fine at their own place and modern era has bring everything to our door step with the help of internet as internet has made the world a global village. For instance, if I can watch anything of my choice at any time of the day giving me flexibility of time then why would I take time out from my busy schedule. So, its true theatre shows and cinemas are not in the interest of modern generation.

Nevertheless, its all true cinemas and live shows plays huge role economically and represents the tradition of that specific region as theatre stories are mostly inspired from that area and written by local authors. If we engage ourselves into economical aspect, cinemas and theatre plays huge role in terms of economy. For example, whenever a movie or drama is releases in theatres and cinemas, whole bunch of people buys tickets, goes and watch for their relaxation or entertainment, profiting the casting company and they pays taxes over their income to governments, ultimately benefitting the people of country as that money will be use on them. Therefore, argue is valid as well.

Conclusion is tough as both points seems to be authentic but I'll go with theatres and cinemas don't matter that much as it takes alot of effort to visit these places especially and we are living in a very modern and fast era, convinence is more important than anything for me.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and give a personal position, so the response is relevant to the task. The first body paragraph explains the convenience of online entertainment, while the second gives economic and cultural reasons for keeping cinemas and theatres. However, the position is not fully consistent: “I agree with both judgements” suggests equal support, but the conclusion says these venues “don’t matter that much.” The supporting ideas also remain general. For example, the economic paragraph describes ticket sales and taxes, but does not explain the cultural value in much detail or provide a specific example. Make your position clear from the introduction and maintain it throughout, then develop each view with a more precise example and explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “Nevertheless,” “For example,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and some linking phrases feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. The opening sentence, for instance, introduces a survey that is not explained or used later, while “Some criticise others opinion” makes the transition to the opposing view difficult to follow. The conclusion also introduces a personal preference that conflicts with the introduction. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and ensure the position develops consistently from beginning to end.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global village,” “flexibility,” “economically,” “culturally,” and “tradition.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “entertainment stuff,” “criticise others opinion,” “casting company,” and “convinience.” Some phrases are also repeated, particularly “cinemas and theatres” and “huge role.” Aim for more precise, natural expressions and check spelling and word forms. For instance, describe the “film production company” rather than the “casting company,” and use “convenience” correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional question about choosing online viewing and a sentence beginning “If we engage ourselves into economical aspect.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “people says,” “modern era has bring,” “shows and cinemas plays,” and “they pays,” where subject–verb agreement or verb forms are incorrect. There are also problems with sentence construction and punctuation, such as the long sentence beginning “For instance, if I can watch…” and the comma after “people” in “people, who do not find interest.” Practise accurate agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
