Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that in this modern age, cinema halls and theatres have lost their importance due to availability of enormous amount of entertainment content on internet. Others argue that these entertainment hubs preserve cultural and economic values. Although cinemas maintain our cultural integrity and play a role in economy, I believe that watching movies on the internet is more affordable and convenient for audience.

On the one hand, it is commonly considered that movie theatres helps us maintianing the cultural values and fund various businesses. Firstly, usually individuals go with their loved ones such as family members or friends to cinemas to watch the entertainment content. It strengthens thier mutual relationships, which is very essential for social or cultural integrity. Secondly, the spented money by viewers helps various businesses to grow such as showbiz industry and cinemas, which plays a positive role in the economy of country.

On the other hand, peoples believe that watching movies on internet is money-saving and more convenient than visiting the movie theatres. Cinema tickets are costly, so every person cannot afford the expensive tickets. Moreover, people usually have busy schedules, they cannot visit the cinemas at the fixed times. For instance, a coroporate employee has fixed schedule to follow. The presense of a substantial amount of free-entertainment content on internet allows individuals to entertain theirsevles at flexible time and place without paying the money.

In conclusion, although cinemas preserve the our social values and fund to several business sectors, I believe that watching movies on internet is the best way to be enjoy by watching the entertainment content.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your own position: cinemas support cultural relationships and businesses, while online viewing is cheaper and more convenient. The two body paragraphs give relevant reasons, and the example of a corporate employee with a fixed schedule helps illustrate the convenience argument. However, the economic point is only briefly explained, and the cultural claim that going with loved ones strengthens “social or cultural integrity” needs a clearer explanation or a more specific example. Your opinion is clear, but the conclusion’s claim that online viewing is “the best way” is broader than the reasons established. Develop each main idea more fully and make the comparison between the two forms of entertainment more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, while “Firstly” and “Secondly” signal the supporting points. This coherent arrangement meets the expected standard, and the ideas generally progress logically. To make the flow more flexible and precise, avoid relying so heavily on formulaic transitions and strengthen links between claims and explanations. For example, the move from family visits to “social or cultural integrity” would benefit from an explicit explanation of how shared viewing preserves culture. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together into a sharper final comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural values,” “economy,” “convenient,” “fixed times,” and “substantial amount.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce naturalness: “enormous amount of entertainment content on internet,” “spented money,” and “entertain theirsevles” are examples. “Entertainment content” is also repeated, and phrases such as “fund various businesses” are not quite precise for the intended meaning. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more accurate and varied without changing your argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although cinemas maintain…”) and a reason clause in the example about employees. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “movie theatres helps” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “they cannot visit the cinemas at the fixed times” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. The conclusion’s “the best way to be enjoy” also has an incorrect verb construction. Review agreement, clause boundaries, and verb patterns, and check articles and plural forms. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control while preserving the range you already attempt.
