Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people think that in the age of digital media and advancement. Entertainment like attending theatres and going to cinemas are no longer important because they can watch everything online, while other people has a opinion that theatres are relevant as cultural heritage and are also financially accessible. My opinion is that the cinemas and the theatres are still relevant and plays an important part in our culture, an excellent source of entertainment, and is affortable to almost everyone.
As how the world is changing, people look for various types of entertainment. There was a time when cinema halls, restaurants, and theatres were the main source of entertainment, but with the advancement of technology, all of these forms of entertainment are now locked in a room. You are just one click away, and whatever you want to watch is on your fingertips because of online access. Prior to internet, people had to make a plan with their friends to watch a movie outside in a cinema. Now all of the fun is inside your house, you can call your friends in your house, set up a home theatre and here is your cinema right in your house.
On the other hand, a lot of people still believe that cinemas and theatres are still relevant to our culture and are economical for the people. It is an old source of entertainment but it has become a novel experience for people too. Due to online internet access, people sits at home and watch movies, but cinemas would require you to get up, change your clothes, and move your body. It also helps you form new social connections. These social connections are not only important for us to thrive and survive, but they are also essential for our mental well-being. Furthermore going out to watch the theatre and cinema is beneficial for your mental and physical well-being; it is also cost-effective. If we can adapt to meet our friends and plan watch movies and go to the theatre. It may be excellent for our health, and that can also help us have less visit to doctors.
Finally, in my view, cinemas and theatres are important form of entertainment, they not only help us to have a healthy lifestyle and social connection but can be important to our culture and affordability.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both perspectives and state your view clearly: online viewing is convenient, while cinemas and theatres retain cultural, social and health-related value. The first body paragraph explains the convenience of watching at home, and the second gives reasons to continue going out, so the response addresses the task. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the online argument is mostly illustrated through a home-theatre scenario, while the cultural and economic importance is asserted more than explained. The claim that venues are “economical” or “cost-effective” needs a concrete reason or example, and the cultural role could be supported with a specific example. Develop these points and make the comparison between the views more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Furthermore,” and “Finally” help signal the direction of the argument. Overall, the ideas are arranged coherently, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “If we can adapt to meet our friends and plan watch movies and go to the theatre” does not clearly connect to the following claim about health, and the paragraph shifts from social connections to physical health and affordability without fully explaining the links. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph develop one main line of reasoning, with references such as “this experience” clearly tied to the point being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital media,” “online access,” “cultural heritage,” “social connections,” and “mental well-being.” There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “novel experience” and “cost-effective.” However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. “All of these forms of entertainment are now locked in a room” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “on your fingertips” would usually be “at your fingertips.” The repeated use of “entertainment,” “relevant,” and “important” also narrows the range. Choose more precise expressions for convenience, shared experiences and cultural value, and check spelling, as in “affordable” rather than “affortable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “but.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction and punctuation recur. For example, “other people has a opinion” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and article use; “cinemas and the theatres … plays” should use a plural verb; and “people sits at home” also needs a plural verb. The opening sentence is a fragment, while the final paragraph joins several independent ideas with commas. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and separate complete ideas with full stops or use a suitable conjunction. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
