Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is considerable debate about whether theatres and cinemas are important no longer imporatant as people can watch all the entertainment they want online, while others argue that these are still important both economically and culturally. Although both perspectives have valid arguments, I believe that theatres and cinemas are still important because they generate employment, contribute in economy and many a still a source of physical entertainment in number of ways.

On the one hand, some people believe that online plateforms are a more convnient source of entertainment. The primary reason for this is that they can want a movie, scroll a reel and listen to music, just by pressing a button. This is because nowadays, people are more busy and less time for recreations so instead of going out they relaxed their self at home by using online means. Consequently, they become use to of this and instead of going to cinema and theatre, they enjoyed at home. For example, a professional industrlist who spend more of his day in attending meeting definately, will avoid going outside so, he will switch to online plateforms to relaxed his brain. Therefore, supporters of this view argue that physical means of entertainment are no loonger required.

On the other hand, others argue that cinemas and theatres are still important both economically and culturally. One major reason is that it provide jobs to number of individuals, for instance, to actors or actress, people in management team and the other workers. In other words, it contributes in the economy of country. An other point is, it is an important cultural symbol. For instance, In Pakistan, the culture of cinemas and theatres are of paramount importance. Nevertheless, I believe that these places are still important becasue it foster country's economy.

In conclusion, although online entertainment has certain merits, theatres and cinemas also offers significant benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear view: cinemas and theatres remain important because they provide employment and cultural value. The online-entertainment paragraph gives relevant reasons, including convenience for busy people, and the example of a professional helps illustrate this point. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The economic benefit is explained briefly, while the cultural claim about Pakistan is asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation. Your conclusion also repeats your position without drawing together the main reasons. Develop the cultural argument and explain more precisely how these venues benefit the economy to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical, however, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, “Consequently, they become use to of this” does not clearly identify what “this” refers to, while “Therefore” largely repeats the preceding point. The final paragraph is very brief and does not connect the discussion’s main arguments. Use pronouns with clear references and vary linking by showing specific relationships, such as cause, contrast, or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “online platforms,” “employment,” “cultural symbol,” and “paramount importance,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “plateforms,” “convnient,” “loonger,” and “becasue” are examples. Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “contributes in economy,” “relaxed their self,” and “a source of physical entertainment.” The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but repeated general terms such as “important” and “entertainment” limit precision. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for discussing economic and cultural effects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction and cause-and-effect structures such as “This is because…” and “Consequently…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “they can want a movie” has an incorrect verb construction, “people are more busy and less time” lacks a grammatical structure for the second clause, and “it provide jobs” has subject–verb disagreement. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “An other point is, it is…” and the comma splice in “For instance, In Pakistan…”. Practise accurate clause construction and agreement, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
