Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argue that theatres and cinemas have become less important in digital era because people can watch thousands of movies on online platform. While some people may believe that these traditional platforms are still important for culture and economic growth, I also believe people can enjoy entertainment online but still theatres and cinemas play a significant role in society.

On the one hand, many people believe theatres and cinemas are no longer essential because of online streaming platforms because these app allow viewers to enjoy different kinds movies and entertainment whenever and wherever they want. These apps make the entertainment more convenient and and affordable because there is no need to spend money on transport and tickets. For example many small cities in Pakistan do not have any theatres or cinemas, so these streaming app allow people to enjoy their favourite shows online.

On the other hand, some people including me support the argue, theatres and cinemas play significant role in society. They provide job opportunities for many people and also generate income. Many individuals like producers, camera men, writers they all are associated with the cinemas and theatres where they earn their living. These bodies also play a significant role in the conservation and display of cultural heritage. For example, theatres reflect our traditional values by their plays and it also provide an opportunity to enjoy the live performance.

In conclusion, although online entertainment is convenient, affordable and easily accessible, I believe theatres and cinemas remain important because they provide jobs and preserve the cultural heritage. So there is need to enjoy both mean of entertainment rather then replacing these traditional source of entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and make your own position clear: online entertainment is convenient, but cinemas and theatres remain important. The examples about streaming access in smaller Pakistani cities and employment in the entertainment industry are relevant, and the cultural role of live theatre helps support your view. This meets the task well, while some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, the economic argument is asserted through a list of workers, but you could explain more clearly how venues generate income or support local businesses. The discussion of online entertainment could also consider its limitations, rather than focusing mainly on convenience and cost. Developing these comparisons would make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The second body paragraph begins “some people including me support the argue,” which makes the relationship between the opposing view and your own position confusing. Within the paragraph, the list of workers and the cultural point could be linked more explicitly. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and organise each body paragraph around a clear main idea followed by explanation and an example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “online streaming platforms,” “job opportunities,” “generate income,” and “cultural heritage.” These phrases help communicate the main ideas, but the range and control are uneven, with repeated general terms such as “important,” “significant,” and “entertainment.” Several word-choice and collocation errors are noticeable, including “movies on online platform,” “these bodies” for theatres and cinemas, and “support the argue.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to use more accurate topic-specific expressions and check singular/plural forms in noun phrases. Replacing repeated words with suitable alternatives will also make the discussion more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause in “although online entertainment is convenient” and a reason clause explaining why streaming is accessible. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “It is often argue” needs a passive form, and “these app allow” has a subject–verb agreement error. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “play significant role” and “Many individuals like producers, camera men, writers they all are associated…,” where the list is not integrated into a complete, well-punctuated sentence. There is also an unnecessary repeated “and” in “convenient and and affordable.” Practise accurate noun phrases, agreement, and punctuation while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
