Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the era of digitalisation where all the things are avaliable just on the tip of your finger, it is often argued that cinemas and theatres are losing their importance as people have now shifted their focus on the online streaming platforms for entertainment. However, other believe cinemas and theatres are a vital part of the cultural society and moreover it is also regarded as the economic backbone for entertainment industry. Through this essay I shall discuss my opion on both views.

In modern times, with introduction to various online entertainment platforms, people are leaning to choose the entertainment available at the comfort of their home ,as these platforms provide viewers with many different genres, they have options to select from wide range of categories. Moreover, due to rising prices ,affording to watch enterinment in cinema is no longer ecomically feasible for everyone. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both perspectives: the second paragraph explains the convenience and affordability of online entertainment, while the third gives economic and cultural reasons to retain cinemas and theatres. The examples of Avengers: Endgame and Broadway are relevant and help make the cultural point concrete. However, the response does not clearly state your own opinion; “Through this essay I shall discuss my opinion” announces the essay but does not reveal your view. The economic point is also only briefly explained, and the Broadway example is left unfinished, so its relevance is not fully developed. State your position directly in the introduction and conclusion, then explain how each example supports your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction followed by one paragraph for each view, and transitions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” help signal changes in direction. The ideas generally follow a sensible order. At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear: the long sentence beginning “as these platforms provide viewers” joins several points without clear boundaries, and “it in turn serves benefits the whole employment ecosystem” makes the relationship difficult to follow. The final Broadway example is cut off, which leaves the paragraph and essay without a complete ending. Use clearer sentence boundaries and add a conclusion that brings the discussion and your position together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “online streaming platforms,” “employment opportunities,” “cultural society,” and “CGI effect.” These choices show an effort to discuss both economic and cultural dimensions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “avaliable,” “enterinment,” “ecomically,” and “opion.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “at the tip of your finger,” “economic backbone for entertainment industry,” and “a must have exper.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing natural collocations; for example, use “at your fingertips” and “a major contributor to the entertainment industry.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a reason clause beginning “as these platforms provide viewers.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain faulty structures that can make the reader work to understand the meaning. For example, “other believe cinemas and theatres are a vital part … and moreover it is also regarded” has an unclear subject and agreement, while “when people buy snacks and movies tickets it in turn serves benefits” is not grammatically well formed. The sentence about online platforms also runs several clauses together. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use punctuation to separate independent ideas.
