Student answer (Band 5.0)

Technology is advancing day by day. Nowadays, some people think that theatres and cinemas are no longer in trend whereas, other people oppose this view. I will discuss both views and my own opinion in the upcoming segments.

On the one hand, people think that theatres and cinemas are no longer significant because people can enjoy and watch all the entertainment at their homes. Everything is available online. There are many reasons why people should watch entertainment at homes. Firstly, the tickets are very expensive in cinemas as people can watch it free on internet. Secondly, people can spend their quality time alone rather than sitting in crowded place. If someone is introvert or they wants to spend quality time alone then he/she can enjoy at their home.

On the other hand, people should go out in cinemas as there is big screen it can be a memorable experience for a person. Also, people can enjoy their time with friends or family and it will be a good day out for them as well. People also give their reviews on movie. It is the business of other people also if no one will come to see the movie in cinema it will be the big loss for theatres.

To conclude, although, it is important to go out in cinemas like people can spend thier quality of time with thier near and dear ones yet the importance of watching movies can not be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views and give a concluding opinion, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the discussion is only partial: the online-view paragraph focuses on cost and privacy, while the case for cinemas mentions a memorable experience and employment but does not explain their wider cultural importance. Your own position is also difficult to identify clearly; the conclusion says cinemas are important, but the wording “although … yet” leaves the contrast and final judgement unclear. Ideas such as the economic impact on theatres are introduced but not developed with an example or explanation. The response is also 8 words below the required minimum. Develop each side with specific reasons and make your opinion explicit from the introduction through to the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas within each paragraph are generally related. However, progression is limited because points are listed rather than connected and explained; for example, the cinema paragraph moves from a big screen to time with family and then to reviews and business losses without showing how these points relate. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Also” and “Firstly/Secondly.” The conclusion’s “although … yet” construction also makes the relationship between ideas unclear. Build clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and use referencing and transitions more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “tickets,” “crowded place,” “memorable experience,” and “business.” However, the range is limited and some expressions are repetitive or imprecise. “No longer in trend” is not a natural way to describe declining importance, while “watch it free on internet” and “big loss for theatres” lack precise, natural phrasing. “Quality time” is repeated, and “people also give their reviews on movie” does not clearly express why this supports the cultural value of cinemas. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main argument, but they limit precision and fluency. Use more topic-specific language and check common collocations, such as “cinema attendance” and “shared viewing experience.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, including “If someone is introvert or they wants to spend quality time alone then…” and the concession in the conclusion. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation remain. For example, “they wants” should have matching subject–verb agreement, and “if someone is introvert” needs an article. The sentence beginning “On the other hand” joins two ideas without a clear grammatical connection: “as there is big screen it can be…” The conclusion’s “although … yet” structure is also faulty. There are some correctly formed sentences, but greater control of clauses and punctuation is needed. Practise combining ideas with accurate subordinate clauses and review articles and agreement.
