Student answer (Band 5.0)

The statement state that some people say that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch entertainment they want online. Others say that theatres and cinemas are still important for the economically and culturally. I agree with both statements.

On the one hand, most of the people have started watching films, dramas, series, and other types of entertainment on their mobile phones or on TV, so they do not go to the theatre. For example, I love to go to watch movies in the theatre, but now I watch all the movies on my mobile phone, because it saves time as well as it save money so nowadays people love to watch movies and series online because they watch whatever they want. Therefore, in cinema and theater, they only watch the movies and series that are played.

On the other hand, it is also important that people go to the cinema and theater because they play an important role in the economy and in culture. People who start watching online get bored easily because they watch it alone. When you are watching something in cinema and theater, its all fun because there are a lot of people who are passing comments and praising the actors as well.

In conclusion, I want to say that go to cinema and theater is best beacuse is has economic and cultural values and people get some fun that makes that movie or series memorable. Watching online doesn't give those feelings that cinema give.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state, “I agree with both statements,” so the reader can identify your general position. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the online-view paragraph focuses mainly on convenience and cost, while the economic and cultural importance of theatres is asserted rather than explained with specific effects or examples. The claim that audiences make films memorable gives a relevant personal perspective, but it does not fully explain the cultural or economic case. The conclusion also shifts toward recommending cinemas without clarifying how this fits your agreement with both views. The response is 237 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 19 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop each side with clearer reasons and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the contrast, and the ideas within each paragraph are generally related. However, progression is limited by repeated points about watching films online and by links such as “Therefore,” which does not clearly follow from the preceding explanation. Some references are also unclear, particularly “they only watch the movies and series that are played,” where “they” could refer to cinemas or viewers. The conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than bringing the comparison together. Use clearer referencing and connect each reason to its consequence to make the argument progress more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “entertainment,” “economy,” “culture,” and “actors.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “watch,” “movies,” and “cinema and theater.” Some collocations and word choices are noticeably inaccurate, such as “important for the economically and culturally,” “passing comments,” and “get some fun.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less natural, even though the overall message remains understandable. Aim for more precise expressions for the benefits of live venues and online viewing, and vary repeated terms. For example, you could describe cinemas as supporting local employment or providing a shared viewing experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a sentence beginning “For example” that explains your personal experience and reasons for watching online. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “The statement state,” “it save money,” and “its all fun,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement and apostrophe use. The phrase “I want to say that go to cinema and theater is best” also lacks a correctly formed subject and verb pattern. Errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to follow. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and sentence patterns, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly conjugated verb.
