Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a huge debate whether theatres and cinemas should be obsolete as ubiquity of everything online but there are few who still believes both are important economically and culturally. I am a firm believer of later one.

Culture of theatres and cinemas brings people together.Making plan, taking time out of your busy schedule to watch a movie with a family was a culture from early times and is an excuse to bring family under same roof one's in a blue moon. Watching a movie in theatre with no play forward option keeps the suspense till the end. People can enjoy quality Hd visuals and cinemetography which make movie experience more fun.For instance, there arre now cinemas that offers 3D experience which one cannot experience online. Theatres and cinemas also offers economically to country. They provide number of employment opportunities. For example, theatre and cinema comes with food court which is great according to business point of view.

On the other hand, availability of everything online do favours those who have hectic schedule and wants to take a rest but it cannot take over theatres and cinemas. People with less constraint on themselves don't wait and plays end part which eliminates the whole essence of watching movies.Completely shift to online will only make us not to experience the visuals the same way director wants us to appreciate.Ubiquity of entertainment online made family member distanced and mentally stressed. For exampple, people will only meet on birthdays, weddings or funerals. People now used to prefer being alone with just mobile which have isolated them from rest of the world, not even checking up on their blood relatives. Being online all the time has increased health issues too. For example, constantly binge watching online will affect eyesight.

In conclusion, theatres and cinemas do have an importance in our life and cannot be obsolete.Having everything online cannot be a justification to end theatres and cinemas.Instead, maintaining a balance betwen both will benefits us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both perspectives and state a clear preference for the continued importance of theatres and cinemas: “I am a firm believer” in this view, and your conclusion recommends “maintaining a balance.” The cultural case is supported with examples such as shared family outings and the 3D cinema experience, while employment and food courts introduce an economic argument. This covers the task well, and the range of relevant points shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the economic view is only briefly explained, and several claims about online viewing—such as family members becoming distant or experiencing health issues—are asserted rather than carefully supported. Develop these points with clearer reasoning and specific examples to make the discussion more balanced and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting theatres and cinemas, a contrasting paragraph about online entertainment, and a conclusion. The progression from cultural benefits to economic benefits is generally understandable, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Theatres and cinemas also offers economically to country” does not clearly link the preceding point to the economic argument, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from convenience to family relationships and eyesight. Use clearer topic sentences and group related ideas, then explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main point. This would make the progression smoother and references easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “ubiquity,” “suspense,” “cinematography,” “employment opportunities,” and “isolated.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “firm believer of later one,” “theatres and cinemas also offers economically,” and “plays end part”; several spellings, such as “cinemetography” and “betwen,” also need attention. Aim for natural, precise phrases rather than ambitious wording that does not fit the sentence. Proofreading for spelling and checking common collocations would improve clarity and help you use your vocabulary more flexibly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “which” and “but,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, with errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “there are few who still believes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “cinemas that offers” and “which will benefits us” also use incorrect verb forms. The opening sentence is difficult to follow because its clauses are not clearly connected, and “Making plan, taking time out…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Practise building complete sentences around one main idea, and check agreement and verb forms when editing. More accurate complex sentences would make your argument easier to read.
