Student answer (Band 6.5)
a number of people argue that with the introduction of the online entertainment services, theatres and cinemas are no longer relevant while others believe that audience will still visit theatres for the overall experience. i largely agree that watching a movie in cinemas offers an irreplaceable, immersive experience.
on the one hand, streaming films and series online offers undeniable experience and offers a financial benefit. people can watch dramas, and documentaries without spending money on travel or expensive tickets. moreover, streaming services provide wide variety of content that can be accessed at any time. for example, people can watch international films on the smartphones at any time without leaving their comfort zone. therefore, online entertainment is often more convenient and affordable option.
on the other hand, visiting a cinema provide a complete different experience that home setups cannot replicate. economically, they create employment opportunities for the actors, directors, technicians and the other workers. they also generate income for nearby businesses, including restaurants and shopping centres. culturally, these venues provide a unique experience that people cannot fully enjoy at home. watching a live performmance allows audiences to appreciate the actors emotions and skills, while cinema offers a large screens and powerful sound systems. furthermore, these places bring people together and encourage social interaction.
in conclusion, although digital platforms ahve changes the entertainment industry by making content more accessible. i believe theatre and cinemas are still important. they contribute to the economy, promote culture activities, and provide an enjoyable experiences that online entertainment services cannot replace.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear position: you largely agree that cinema offers an “irreplaceable, immersive experience.” The response gives relevant reasons for online entertainment, including convenience, affordability and access to varied content, then contrasts these with cinemas’ economic and social contributions. Examples such as employment for film workers and income for nearby businesses help support your view. The main limitation is that some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the cultural value of venues is mentioned, but the distinction between live theatre and cinema could be developed more precisely. Extending one or two examples and explaining their significance would make the argument more fully developed and persuasive throughout the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs presenting each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from online convenience to the economic and cultural value of venues is easy to follow, and signposts such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “in conclusion” guide the reader. Within paragraphs, however, some connections feel list-like: the points about employment, nearby businesses, cultural experience and social interaction are placed together without always showing how they relate. The conclusion also begins with a dependent “although” clause that is not completed as a full sentence. Use linking phrases to clarify relationships between supporting points and ensure each paragraph develops a connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “streaming services,” “employment opportunities,” “social interaction,” and “powerful sound systems.” These expressions make the subject clear, and attempts at more specific language show awareness of the topic. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “offers undeniable experience,” “provide wide variety,” “a complete different experience,” and “promote culture activities.” There are also spelling errors, including “performmance” and “ahve,” which reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; for example, describe streaming as offering “convenience” or “access to a wide variety of content,” and refer to “cultural activities.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including contrast clauses with “although” and “while,” and the sentence explaining that people can watch content without travelling is clear. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “audience will still visit” (missing an appropriate determiner or plural form), “visiting a cinema provide” (subject–verb agreement), and “cinema offers a large screens” (article and number agreement). The final sentence beginning “although digital platforms…” is also incomplete because the subordinate clause is separated from the main clause by a full stop. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and proofread each sentence for a complete subject–verb structure. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
