Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people think that in this era of modern technology, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment which they want on online platforms like Netflix, Amazon player and Movie box, while other argues that theatres and cinemas are still important for both economically and culturally. I will discuss both of the point of view and also give my opinion in the conclusion.

On the one hand, most of the people think that the theatres and cinemas are not important for our entertainment purposes because its become very old faishioned as we live in a modern era of techonology so we do not need these such things for entertainment. Despite of this, people can watch their favourite movies or tv shows on online streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon MX Player, Movie box and Youtube because its far convenient than the cinemas. Moreover, online platforms allows people to watch their favourite shows on their own time whenever they want. For example, students and busy workers don't have enough time to watch movies in cinemas rather than on youtube whenever they want.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still important for both economically and culturally. People can watch movies, tv shows on online platforms like Netflix so they purchase the subscription package to enjoy it. Due to this, new generation have less interaction with their friends or relatives and also becoming less social. When people watch movies in cinemas with their families and friends so its a time to spend qyality time with your loved once who care about you and it also reflects our cukture and society and also its very economical for the middle class people.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important rather than online platforms like youtube who offers people to watch their favourite shows or movie whenever they want to watch without spending a single penny on travelling and cinemas movie tickets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for online entertainment in the conclusion. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons for this view, including convenience and the ability to watch at a chosen time. However, the discussion of the opposing view is less fully developed: it shifts from cinemas’ cultural and social value to online subscriptions, without clearly explaining the economic importance of theatres and cinemas. The claim that cinema is “very economical for the middle class” also needs explanation or an example. Your position is clearest at the end, while the introduction says only that you will give an opinion. To strengthen the response, develop each side with specific, relevant support and make your position clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in perspective, and the conclusion returns to your preference. However, progression within the second body paragraph is less clear: the point about subscription packages leads into reduced social interaction, then to family time and culture, without explaining the links between these ideas. Some linking is also mechanical or awkward, as in “Despite of this” and “Due to this.” Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim. This would make the organisation easier to follow without changing its basic structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online streaming platforms,” “subscription package,” and “interaction.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “important,” “entertainment,” and “favourite.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “faishioned,” “techonology,” “qyality,” and “cukture,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Some expressions are unnatural, including “watch all the entertainment” and “spend quality time with your loved once.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, distinguish between the cultural role of cinemas and the convenience of streaming rather than relying repeatedly on general terms such as “important.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “whenever.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “other argues” should use a plural verb, while “online platforms allows” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “When people watch movies in cinemas with their families and friends so its a time,” the clause structure is faulty, and “its” is used where a contraction or possessive form is needed. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses and check agreement and punctuation.
