Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's time, many people argue that theaters and cinimas are not crucial as people can watch everythings online, while other others believe they are both culturally and economically significant. Although people can use internet for entertainment, I firmly believe that these entertainment center are still needed because they promote the cultural and traditional value alongside economy.

One major benefit of theaters and cinimas is they stand here in our society from the very past. This is because they have cultural and traditional value. Furthermore, people's emotion is connected to this entertainment hub because in past our elders used to go there with their beloved ones to enjoy memorable time. For example, in Nepal, once in a year they celebrate a film festival to promote culture and tradition by their plays. So, if we remove them from our community, then our culture and tradition value will also plummet.

Moreover, cinimas and theaters contribute significantly in the national economy. They are providing jobs for people in one hand while generate huge sum in other hand. For example, in China, films are significantly popular and from single movie government is making billions of dollar. This is why cinimas and theaters play vital role in term of national income, while by providing employment to individual in other side.

In conclusion, although due to widespread use of online platforms, theatres and cinemas look like a hassel. However, I strongly believe that they are still important in our society because they provide economic support in one side, while carrying traditional value in other side.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that theatres and cinemas remain important because of their cultural value and economic contribution. You develop these two reasons with examples, including Nepal’s film festival and the film industry in China, and you acknowledge the opposing view that entertainment is available online. However, the opposing view is only briefly introduced; you do not explain why online viewing might make cinemas less necessary, such as its convenience or lower cost. Some support is also unclear or overgeneralised: the Nepal example does not clearly show how a festival held once a year demonstrates the continuing role of theatres and cinemas, and the economic example focuses on film revenue without explaining the venues’ contribution. Develop both sides more evenly and make each example directly support its point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on cultural and economic importance, and a conclusion that restates your view. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. To make the organisation more flexible and precise, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and clarify how ideas connect within paragraphs. For instance, “This is why” introduces the economic conclusion, but the preceding sentence already makes a similar point. The repeated contrast pattern “in one hand” and “in other hand” also makes the relationships between employment and income harder to follow. Use clearer references and transitions that show the exact relationship between each claim and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “culturally and economically significant,” “promote,” “contribute,” and “national economy.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, the range is uneven, and several inaccurate or unnatural choices reduce precision: “cinimas,” “everythings,” “entertainment hub,” and “a hassel” are either misspelled or unsuitable in context. Phrases such as “stand here in our society from the very past” and “generate huge sum” also do not express your intended meaning naturally. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; using a smaller set of well-controlled expressions will make your argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession in “Although people can use internet for entertainment, I firmly believe…” and a conditional structure beginning “if we remove them.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms remain. For example, “while generate huge sum” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase, and “they provide economic support in one side, while carrying traditional value in other side” has an unclear parallel structure. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and number, as in “from single movie” and “billions of dollar.” Practise building parallel clauses and checking subject–verb forms, articles, and singular/plural nouns, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
