Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people argue that theatres and cinemas are no longer relevant in todays's world as the alternative available of watching entertainment is quite convenient, while others say that they are still important, even in today's fast-paced life both for economy and culture.I believe, that although theatres and cinemas are not as popular as they once were but they still play a key role in economic growth and keeping the culture alive.
In early 2000s netflix was launched, which proved to be a huge success. That success was an ignition for rise of several other OTT platforms. Introduction of these platforms have made it easier than ever to access entertainment. Low cost and convenience provided to consumers is the major cause of why people think cinemas and theatres are not relevant today. These platforms offer access to hundreds of movies and TV shows for a month in less the the price of a movie ticket. Additionally, the convenience of watching entertainment anytime and anywhere is another perk of using these platforms. Together, these are the reasons why some people think cinemas have lost their importance.
Despite of all these facts, I believe cinemas and theatres are still significant both economically and culturally. Firstly, even today a large number of the movies get most of their revenue from box office collection all over the country or even worldwide. This revenue stream is what keeps the movie markets goings. Seconldy, cinemas and theatres have been a major cultural hub throughout the history. Watching a movie on a big screen, and meeting people who have the same taste as yourself is still delightful and will continue to be so.
To conclude, I would argue although that OTT platforms are a huge success, but that cannot neglect the cutural and economic effect of cinemas and theatres on people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear position: online platforms offer affordability and convenience, while cinemas and theatres retain economic and cultural value. The examples of subscription access and box-office revenue are relevant, and the cultural point about sharing a film experience supports your opinion. This meets the task well, but development is uneven: the online-viewing argument is explained in more detail than the economic and cultural case, which relies on broad claims such as “keeps the movie markets going.” To strengthen the response further, explain how venues support jobs or local businesses, and give a more specific example of their cultural role. Your conclusion restates your view, though its reasoning could be expressed more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the case for online entertainment, a paragraph supporting cinemas and theatres, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “Despite,” and “Firstly” help readers track the argument. The contrast between the two views is also clear. To make the organisation more polished, avoid relying on formulaic sequencing such as “Firstly” and “Seconldy,” and connect each supporting point more explicitly to the central claim. The opening and conclusion contain awkward transitions that slightly interrupt the flow; clearer sentence boundaries and more precise links between ideas would make cohesion feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “OTT platforms,” “box office collection,” “revenue stream,” and “cultural hub.” These choices help convey the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural expressions. For example, “an ignition for rise” and “the movie markets goings” are not natural collocations, while “cutural” and “Seconldy” show spelling slips. “Theatres and cinemas are no longer relevant” is understandable, but repeating “relevant,” “important,” and “significant” limits precision. Aim to use more accurate collocations and vary key terms—for instance, describe platforms as “driving the growth” of streaming, and venues as “contributing to the film industry.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “although theatres and cinemas are not as popular as they once were” and a relative clause in “which proved to be a huge success.” Most ideas can be understood, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences awkward. Examples include “Introduction of these platforms have made” (article and subject–verb agreement), “less the the price” (comparison structure), and “Despite of all these facts” (incorrect preposition pattern). The opening sentence also needs clearer punctuation and sentence boundaries, and “although … but” in the conclusion uses two competing conjunctions. Review agreement, articles, and clause construction, then proofread for punctuation and repeated words.
