Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people say that with the advancement in technology, cinemas and theatres have lost their importance because people can watch entertainment they want online. However, others argue that cinemas and theatres have their own cultural and economic importance.
The technology advancing day by day has made it very convenient for people to watch any type of entertainment at their homes, while laying in their or sitting at the couch. Platforms such as Netlfix, Amazon prime and many others help in providing a similar experience to that of a cinema or theatre with very affordable subscription prices. Moreover they have wide variety of movies,tv shows as well as podcasts which are both entertaining and educational.
However, these platforms can still struggle to provide the same experience as the one in cinemas or theatres because that is not easy to afford or avail. That experience can only be achieved in private cinemas or theatres which cannot be afforded by many, so they have immense importance, moreover they are not just a source of entertainment but have a lot of cultural importance as well, because they go back to the old times where this was the only sort of entertainment which people of that era had.
So in my opinion Theatres and Cinemas are equally important in the present day even with all technology around us as nothing until now can provide the same exact experience as that of the Theatre or a Cinema. Furhtermore it is a source of income for many people and they solely depend on these to earn a living.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state your own position: online platforms offer convenience and affordable access, while cinemas and theatres provide a distinctive experience and support livelihoods. These points are relevant, but the discussion is uneven and some claims need clearer development. For example, the cultural importance of theatres is linked mainly to their being an old form of entertainment, without explaining how they preserve culture today. The economic point appears only briefly in the conclusion, with no example of jobs or local business. Your opinion is clear, but the claim that venues are “equally important” is not fully reconciled with the advantages of online viewing. Develop each side with specific reasons or examples and make the comparison more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on online entertainment, a contrast paragraph about venues, and a concluding opinion. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “So” help signal the direction of the argument. At times, though, the progression within paragraphs is less controlled. The third paragraph combines affordability, the cinema experience, and cultural history in one long sequence, so the relationship between these points is not always clear. “Moreover” is also used to add ideas that would benefit from more precise connections. Separate the cultural and economic arguments, and use clearer referencing—for instance, specify what “that experience” refers to—to make the reasoning easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “advancement in technology,” “subscription prices,” “cultural importance,” and “source of income.” There is some attempt at less common phrasing, but word choice and collocation are not consistently natural or precise. “A similar experience to that of a cinema or theatre” overstates what streaming platforms provide, while “the same exact experience” is awkward and repetitive. Spelling errors such as “Netlfix” and “Furhtermore,” along with inconsistent capitalisation of “Theatres and Cinemas,” reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, distinguish the convenience of streaming from the immersive experience of a venue.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “which,” and the main meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in longer sentences. In “while laying in their or sitting at the couch,” the structure is incomplete and the prepositions are inaccurate; a clearer form would be “while lying in bed or sitting on the couch.” The sentence beginning “That experience can only be achieved…” runs several ideas together, making its structure difficult to control. There are also punctuation and capitalisation issues, such as the comma splice in “movies,tv shows” and the capitalised “Theatres” mid-sentence. Use shorter sentences where needed and proofread clause boundaries and punctuation.
