Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people have an opinion that theatres and cinemas in this digital era are no longer beneficial as people can watch all the entertainment online, whilst others argue that theatres and cinemas are important for both economy and culturally. This essay agrees with the point that theatres and cinemas have importance in our life.

While people can watch any entertainment content on their devices. Theatres and cinemas are still important for us. Many streaming platforms have gotten popular over the years and a lot of people enjoy watching different niches of content through their devices at their convenience. Platforms like Netflix have a huge amount of users. In only few dollars they provide a monthly subscription that has a great value and service where people can enjoy any type of content.

However, others have a opinion that theatres and cinemas are still important. Theatres and cinemas requires visitors, which can be beneficial for nearby shops, restuarants and cafes. As people visit theatres and cinemas they are more likely to visit nearby places. Theatres and cinemas have a deep root in our culture where people would visit these places to enjoy time watching shows and films. It supports our economy, as it requires a ticket which can cover the cost of these areas and support local people. For example, a show called Charlie Chaplin was a great entertainment for Americans. If they had not visited the theatres his talent would had never been recognized.

In conclusion, streaming platforms are easy to use with a lot of options in single fee subscription, whereas theatres and cinemas costs add up fast as each show requires a new ticket. But that does not mean we should abandon them, as it supports our economy and also is a great part of our culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your position clearly in the introduction: you agree that theatres and cinemas remain important. The discussion of online viewing is relevant, with Netflix and convenient subscriptions as examples, while the second body paragraph explains economic benefits to nearby businesses and cultural value. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the online-viewing point is mostly a description of affordability and choice, and the cultural argument is asserted rather than fully explained. The Charlie Chaplin example is also unclear as evidence for the role of theatres. To strengthen the response, explain more directly why online entertainment may replace cinema visits, then develop how shared viewing or live performance contributes to culture and local economies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “While,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. “While people can watch any entertainment content on their devices. Theatres and cinemas are still important for us” is incorrectly split into two sentences, and the opening of the second body paragraph repeats the idea that theatres and cinemas are important rather than clearly transitioning to the economic and cultural reasons. Use topic sentences that preview each paragraph’s main point and connect examples explicitly to the claim they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “streaming platforms,” “monthly subscription,” “nearby shops,” and “local people.” The meaning is generally clear, but several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, which limits the naturalness and flexibility of the vocabulary. For example, “different niches of content” is not an idiomatic way to describe variety, and “important for both economy and culturally” uses an unsuitable form. There are also spelling errors such as “restuarants.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check collocations and word forms. For instance, describe cinemas as “economically and culturally significant,” and refer to “a wide range of content” rather than “different niches of content.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including “as people visit theatres and cinemas” and the contrast introduced by “whereas” in the conclusion. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. “While people can watch any entertainment content on their devices” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence; “theatres and cinemas requires” has subject–verb disagreement; and “a opinion” and “would had never been recognized” show article and verb-form errors. There are also problems with plural agreement in “theatres and cinemas costs.” Work on complete sentence boundaries, agreement with plural subjects, and conditional verb forms. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
