Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear preference for cinemas in the conclusion and include relevant reasons for both online viewing and attending a theatre. The points about convenience, affordability, the large screen, surround sound and supporting the film industry address the topic. However, the task asks you to discuss the economic and cultural importance of cinemas as well as the opposing view. The online paragraph focuses on personal convenience, while the cinema paragraph mainly describes the viewing experience; the economic and cultural arguments are only briefly mentioned, especially in the final sentence. Your position is present but would be stronger if stated clearly in the introduction and supported with developed examples, such as jobs and local businesses or cinema as a shared cultural experience.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift to cinemas, and the conclusion returns to your preference. Overall, the ideas are arranged coherently, but progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose. The opening sentence fragment beginning “Whether it's in the comfort…” does not connect smoothly to the first sentence, and “This essay will discuss” promises an economic focus that is not developed in the body. Some links, such as “That way,” are vague, while the conclusion’s “Although” sentence is not punctuated or connected clearly. Use topic sentences that match the task and make each supporting point’s relationship explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “affordable,” “convenient,” “ambiance,” “surround system,” and “3D version.” There is some variety in describing the cinema experience, but much of the wording is general or repetitive, particularly “movie,” “viewers,” and “experience.” Several choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the effect of it in our current economy,” “the actual theatre and cinemas,” and “make some profit in return.” Spelling slips such as “othe” and “screamig” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions connected to the prompt, including the industry’s economic contribution and cinema’s cultural role, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a conditional-style example about suspense or horror films and a contrast in the conclusion. However, the range is limited, and complex attempts are often faulty. The opening “Whether it's…” is a sentence fragment, and “that will makes the movie more intense” has an incorrect verb form. There are also agreement errors in “The theater also have” and “Children finds,” plus missing or inconsistent punctuation, as in “once again. That way.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main meaning is generally recoverable. Practise complete sentence construction, subject–verb agreement, and accurate verb forms, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
