Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people think that in this modern and advanced era, theatres and cinemas are not important because individuals can watch it online. However, others believes that it is very important for economically and culturally. I think that internet is more useful rather than cinemas and theatres.

On the one hand, internet technology has more flexibility and convenience. Not only convenience but also has vast options to watch whatever they want. Secondly, internet and technology is a competitive platform, so that we have best choices and affordable prices due to high demands and competitions. Furthermore, online entertainment platforms also saves our time and money to commute, means someone wants to watch movie in cinema, he must have to pay for the travel expense and also it takes time to reach our destination due to traffic.

Apart from that, social media platforms provides an opportunity to re-watch or to fast forward the particular movie. Only internet and social platforms can provide this flexibility. For example, we can rewind our favourite part of the movie for twice and thrice. Lastly, this system also provides a flexibility to watch with family or friends without any cost. However, we must have to pay for each individual in cinemas and theatres.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres are also very helpful and essential to remain our culture and economy. Firstly, there are some shows are becoming popular to encourage cultural tribes and this shows only held in cinemas and theatres which resembles our culture. Secondly, this trend has a significant contribution in the economy of the country. There are still so many people who enjoys to watch movies in cinemas ans theatres which helps the growth of economic positions for the country.

In conclusion, there are some advantages of using internet for entertainment such as, affordable, flexibility, no commute expense. However, cinemas and theatres are also very important and it also has some advantages such as, encourage cultures and also helps to economic growth. I believe that, digital media has more advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state your view in the introduction and conclusion: online entertainment is more useful, while cinemas and theatres contribute to culture and the economy. Relevant reasons include convenience, choice, travel costs, and cultural performances. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The economic point is asserted rather than explained, and the cultural example—shows that “encourage cultural tribes”—is unclear and needs a specific illustration. Your position also needs more qualification: explain why online access outweighs the social or cultural value of shared venues, rather than mainly listing advantages. Developing and supporting these ideas more clearly would make the response address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for online entertainment and venues, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the broad contrast. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: several points are introduced with “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “Lastly” without showing how they relate. Some links are unclear, particularly “Apart from that,” which begins another online-benefit paragraph, and “However,” which introduces a contrast that is not fully explained. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each reason to the paragraph’s main claim more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “flexibility,” “affordable prices,” “travel expense,” “cultural,” and “economic growth.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “significant contribution.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which makes some claims unclear. For example, “competitive platform” and “high demands and competitions” do not express the intended relationship naturally, while “encourage cultural tribes” is difficult to interpret. “Social media platforms” is also imprecise for services used to watch films. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and distinguish clearly between streaming services, cinemas, and theatres. This would make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex forms, including “Not only… but also…” and a sentence beginning “For example,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors are frequent, and some longer constructions are difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “others believes,” “technology is,” and “platforms provides” should agree with their subjects. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence construction, as in “there are some shows are becoming popular” and “he must have to pay.” The sentence about commuting joins ideas awkwardly and needs clearer punctuation and structure. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them using controlled complex sentences.
