Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that, In this technological advancement era, theatres and cinema are no longer significant because individuals can access the type of entertainment they want through online platforms.I believe cinemas and theatres are still important both economically and culturally as they give people an opportunity to interact and socialise and also they are affordable.

On the other hand, online platforms like netflix and youtube are convinient, easy and quicker to access. People can watch movies at the comfort of their homes.online movies are easy and quicker to access as you only need to have data bundle and know how to operate a digital device. Nevertheless watching movies online expensive because some digital sites charge a huge some of money for you to get the viewing rights. For example Netflix you need to have data bundle for you to watch and on top of it you must pay subscription, where as in cinemas you just need to buy tickets which are usually not expensive.

Theatres and cinemas give people an opportunity to interact and socialise. An individual can meet with friends and share ideas. It is also easy to make new friends when you go to these places. For instance, people can share ideas or life experiences during break times and become friends. Additionaly, some people can plan dates in theatres and share quality time. Going out is also considered as part of relaxation techniques as people go to cinemas to relax.

In conclusion, While both views have their benefits depending on personal preferences, I believe going to the theatre and cinemas has more benefits than watching movies online because it is cheap and it fosters community cohesion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both perspectives and state a clear opinion: online viewing is convenient, but you favour cinemas and theatres because they support social interaction and community cohesion. The examples about meeting friends, sharing experiences and planning dates are relevant. However, the economic and cultural importance mentioned in the prompt is only partly explored. The affordability comparison is useful, but the online-cost point is not fully clear: you describe online access as convenient, then say it is expensive, without distinguishing subscription and data costs from ticket prices. Cultural value is also mostly represented as socialising. Develop these points with clearer explanation and a specific example of how venues contribute economically or culturally, so the discussion is more balanced and fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction with your position, a paragraph on online platforms, a paragraph on in-person venues, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion.” However, the online paragraph moves from convenience to cost in a way that feels abrupt, and the repeated point that online viewing is “easy and quicker to access” weakens progression. Some links are mechanical, while missing spaces after full stops make boundaries less clear. Group each paragraph around one main claim and connect the explanation and example more smoothly; this would make cohesion less repetitive and more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “online platforms,” “subscription,” “viewing rights,” “socialise,” and “community cohesion.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “quality time” and “relaxation techniques.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “convinient,” “Additionaly,” and “huge some of money.” Some expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “at the comfort of their homes” and “the type of entertainment they want” could be expressed more naturally. Repetition of “easy and quicker to access” limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider range of precise terms for costs, cultural value and audience experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a conditional explanation (“as you only need to have data bundle”) and a contrast introduced by “While both views have their benefits.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “Some people argue that, In this…” has incorrect punctuation and capitalisation, while “People can watch movies at the comfort of their homes.online movies…” contains a sentence boundary error. Articles are also missing in “have data bundle” and “buy tickets” is not consistently framed with the needed article where appropriate. Review sentence boundaries, capital letters after full stops, and article use. More accurate control of these features, alongside varied sentence patterns, would strengthen the response.
