Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that in the modern world, theatres and cinemas are no longer necessary as the audience can watch all entertainment on the internet. others argue that theatres and cinemas are still relevant economically and culturally. This essay will reflect both the perspectives before reaching to a final conclusion.

It is often said that nowadays, theatres and cinemas are not preferred by the audience. one of the compelling concerns is, audience now has an easier access to entertainment across the globe. To some extent that is true, there are several streaming platforms that provide you latest movies, music and other entertainment activities and to access them you need a device and an internet connection. I believe, the sharp decline in the preference of cinemas and theatres is because you have to pay to watch a particular show or a movie, whereas you can watch the same show or movie for free online.

However, theatres and cinemas still play a vital role as they are significantly relevant economically and culturally. These means are used for the promotion of latest upcoming shows, movies or dramas. Organizations pay a huge amount of money to the theatres and cinema to promote there content, which directly contributes to the economy of the country. Moreover, many societies are culturally connected to the theatres. For instance, the renowned english poet Shakespeare, his plays are often played in theatres that has a great influence on people and people enjoy watching such shows in theatres.

In conclusion, online entertainment has attracted the attention of audience. However, both theatres and cinemas are still relevant economically and culturally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a position: online entertainment is attractive, while theatres and cinemas remain economically and culturally relevant. The discussion of streaming access and the Shakespeare example is relevant, and the conclusion restates your overall view. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The online argument focuses mainly on convenience and cost, while the economic point about organisations paying to promote content is asserted without explaining the scale or wider effects. The cultural example is also brief and does not clearly distinguish theatres from cinemas. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason further and make your own judgement more explicit—for example, whether online access complements or replaces the shared experience of live performance and cinema.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the online view, a paragraph supporting the continuing importance of theatres and cinemas, and a conclusion. The contrastive opening of the third paragraph with “However” helps signal the shift in argument, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. Some connections are less smooth, though. “This essay will reflect both the perspectives before reaching to a final conclusion” is a formulaic signpost, and the conclusion repeats the main claims without bringing the discussion together. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly “These means,” which does not identify precisely what is being discussed. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and develop a concluding synthesis rather than simply restating the two sides.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “streaming platforms,” “promotion,” “economically and culturally,” and “decline in the preference.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some more formal expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “reflect both the perspectives,” “an easier access,” and “latest upcoming shows.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “there content” and the lower-case “english.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid using formal-sounding phrases unless they fit the meaning. For example, “discuss both perspectives” and “easier access to entertainment” would express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “streaming platforms that provide you latest movies” and a contrast structure with “whereas.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the missing article in “audience can watch,” the sentence fragment “one of the compelling concerns is, audience now has…,” and the faulty construction “the renowned english poet Shakespeare, his plays are often played…” The phrase “reaching to a final conclusion” also shows an inaccurate preposition pattern. To improve, check articles and subject–verb relationships, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. Breaking the Shakespeare example into two correctly linked sentences would help you retain complex ideas with greater control.
