Student answer (Band 6.5)

People argue that since they can watch all entertainment they want online theatres and cinemas are no longer important, while others think cinemas and theares are both still economically and culturally important. I think even if everything is available online these days the importance of cinemas and theatres has not reduced.

In this digital age, every entertainment source is available on our electronic devices. This has made everything more accessible and cheap, which has advertly effected cinemas and theatres. People can watch movies, dramas, series, and documentaries at any time and place. The cost of these streaming platforms is also way less than cinemas and theatres. Consequently, less and less people go to cinemas and theatres these days. For instance, now people can stream a new movie as soon as it is launched in their free time without waiting in long queues to get a ticket.

Even if streaming services has made entertainment more accessible and cheap it has not replaced theatres and cinemas. They are still important both economically and culturally. Cinemas play an important part in a country's economy by reducing the risk of piracy. For instance, some streaming platforms might illeaglly download movies and series and show them for free, thus, decreasing the revenue movies make and ultimately reducing the economic share of entertainment industry in the GDP of a country. Cinemas help by making sure that people purchase tickets to see a movie and discourage piracy, which is benefial for a country's economy. Other than economic benefits theatres also has cultural benefits. They show plays that portray different cultures, break steretoypes and even provide information on different forms of art. Theatres are the best way to understand a country's culture and tradition. It is also the best way to keep these cultures and tradtitions alive.

From the above dicussion, it is clear that even though current streaming platforms are making entertainment accessible it can not replace cinemas and theatres and that they have their own place and importance in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a consistent opinion: online access is cheaper and more convenient, but cinemas and theatres retain economic and cultural value. The examples about streaming a newly released film and theatres presenting plays help make the discussion relevant. The response also shows some development beyond simply listing advantages. However, the economic explanation is not fully convincing: the claim that cinemas reduce piracy is asserted rather than clearly demonstrated, and the reference to illegal streaming platforms does not explain how cinemas themselves prevent this. The cultural point is more clearly relevant, but could be supported with a specific example. This covers the task and gives a clear position, while some ideas remain less fully developed or precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction presents the two views and your position, the first body paragraph explains the convenience of online entertainment, and the next develops the continuing economic and cultural roles of venues. The conclusion returns to your central view, so the reader can follow the argument throughout. You also use linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “For instance,” and “Other than economic benefits” to signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, these links feel somewhat formulaic, and the transition from piracy to cinemas’ economic contribution is not fully clear. More precise referencing and a smoother explanation of how each example supports its point would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for discussing the topic, with relevant terms such as “streaming platforms,” “piracy,” “revenue,” “GDP,” and “stereotypes.” These choices allow you to express both economic and cultural arguments. You also attempt some less common expressions, including “portray different cultures” and “economic share,” though the latter is not a natural collocation in this context. Several spelling errors—“advertly,” “illeaglly,” “benefial,” “steretoypes,” and “tradtitions”—show that word forms are not consistently controlled. Phrases such as “way less” and “all entertainment source” are also imprecise or informal. A wider range of accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make your meaning more precise and your style more consistently academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession clause in “Even if streaming services has made entertainment more accessible…” and a relative clause in “plays that portray different cultures.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement: “streaming services has” should be “streaming services have,” and “theatres also has” should be “theatres also have.” There are also issues with articles and sentence construction, as in “every entertainment source” and the long final sentence beginning “From the above discussion.” Review agreement and article use, and divide or reshape longer sentences so that complex structures remain controlled.
