Student answer (Band 6.0)
The issue of whether theatres and cinemas are still necessary in the current digital era is a common debate. While some argue that they are no longer important since people can watch entertainment without time restrictions at home and that it is cheaper than going to the theatre, others are of the opinion that they are still quite important since they provide employment and also they help to retain our social nature and help us to create new friends. Although cinemas and theatres create employment and maintain our culture and social values, I believe that they are no longer necessary since we can watch content without time restrictions at home and that subscriptions are cheaper.
Proponents of this feel that cinemas and theatres are no longer important. Going to these facilities requires a fixed schedule as the entertainment if offered on a planned schedule. Those who are busy at work all day may not get a chance to visit the cinemas. With the internet, they can watch movies at home at any time unlike in theatres. As a result they are not left behing on the trending movies that are aired at the cinemas. Moreover, it is cheaper watching online since it requires a monthly subscription and all the required content can be accessed anytime. For example, a user can pay a subscription on Netflix and watch all content for the whole month. This is unlike cinemas and theatres where one has to purchase a ticket for evry show.
On the other hand, cinemas and theatres create employment opportunities. the youth who study theatre and arts at the university would be jobless if such facilities did not exist. In addition, Those who check tickets at the entrance also get an income through these places. Eliminating them would cause financial strain to such families hence resulting to stress and other mental challenges due to lack of employment. Furthermore, our culture social life ismaintained by attending such shows. We can create new friends and networks in these social places. Thsi improves our relationships and cohesion as a nation.
In conclusion, cinemas and theatres are sources of employment and help to maintain our social values. I strongly believe that we can do without them since the internet has everything we need to watch online without time limitations and its also cheaper.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear opinion: online entertainment is more convenient and cheaper, while venues provide jobs and social benefits. The discussion is relevant, and the Netflix example supports your point about subscriptions. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The case for online viewing includes scheduling and cost, whereas the cultural importance mentioned in the introduction is not explained in the body. The claim that theatres maintain “our culture social life” is also unclear and would benefit from a specific example, such as a local performance preserving a tradition. To strengthen the response, explain the cultural value more fully and support your conclusion with a balanced comparison of the benefits and limitations of each option.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from convenience and cost to employment and social interaction is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, connections are occasionally mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore.” Some references are also unclear, as in “such facilities” and “these places,” and the cultural point is compressed into a sentence that is difficult to follow. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and organise the second body paragraph so its economic and cultural points are clearly separated.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss the issue, including “employment opportunities,” “monthly subscription,” “fixed schedule,” and “social values.” These choices make the main ideas understandable. However, the range and precision are uneven, and several phrases are awkward or inaccurate: “the entertainment if offered,” “left behing on the trending movies,” and “our culture social life ismaintained.” Spelling slips such as “evry” and “Thsi” also reduce accuracy. Some wording is repetitive, especially “important” and “watch.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms—for example, distinguish between cultural preservation and social interaction rather than grouping them together. Proofreading for spelling and spacing would also make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession structure in “Although cinemas and theatres create employment…,” and clauses explaining causes and results. Most meaning remains clear, which is a strength. Some grammatical errors persist, however. For example, “the entertainment if offered” has an incorrect verb form, and “Those who are busy at work all day may not get a chance to visit the cinemas” is followed by “As a result they are not left…” without a comma after the introductory phrase. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary issues in “the youth who study theatre and arts… would be jobless” and “Eliminating them would cause financial strain… hence resulting to stress.” Review verb forms, articles, punctuation, and the construction “result in,” while continuing to use varied sentence patterns.
