Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary society, people have different opinions regarding threatres and cinemas. Many believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer significant as individuals can watch all the entertainment they want online, while others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views and argue that threaters and cinemas are significant because it supports employment generation and also promote culture.

On the one hand, some people think that cinemas are crutial for a country because it heps to generate employment in the society for instance, in Inda PVR cinema was made in jagadhri, in 1980 and it not only provides job opportunities to the local people but also helps to increase tourisom in the city as it was the first cinema in nearby cities. As a result many people are become employed in many activities such as some people open their shops near the cinema. Another convencing reason is that it helps to promote culture as most of the cinemas infracture were inspired by old design. For example, the infracture of SKR cineman in Agra was inspired by Taj mahal.

On the others hand, others argue that in modern society theatres and cinemas are no longer important as individuals can watch all the entertainment they want online on their mobiles and other smart devices. But this arguement is not significant because newly released movies are not directly come on the digital platforms, Therefore if they want to watch that movie early they defenately go to cinema.

In conclusion, although technology become advance and people can watch movies online. I strongly believe that cinemas and theaterts and cinemas are still significant because they helps to boost economy and also depicts culture of the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a clear opinion that cinemas and theatres remain significant, and you give relevant reasons linked to employment and cultural identity. The example of a cinema creating nearby business opportunities supports the economic view, while the Taj Mahal-inspired design illustrates a cultural point. You also acknowledge the opposing view that people can watch entertainment on smart devices. However, that view is only briefly discussed, and the response does not fully explore the broader economic and cultural arguments or explain them in depth. The claim that new films are not released online immediately is relevant, but it mainly explains why people still visit cinemas rather than addressing their wider importance. Develop both sides more evenly and make each example’s relevance explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the others hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the intended organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are joined into long sentences, and links between claims and examples are not always clear. For instance, the discussion moves from employment to tourism and then to shops without clearly explaining each connection. Some transitions are mechanical, and the opposing-view paragraph is much shorter than the first. Use clearer sentence boundaries, develop one main idea at a time, and connect examples directly to the point they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “employment generation,” “job opportunities,” “promote culture,” and “digital platforms,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “threatres,” “crutial,” “tourisom,” and “convencing.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “theatres and cinemas are significant because it supports employment generation” and “cinemas infracture were inspired by old design.” These choices can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “create employment,” “attract visitors,” and “cinema architecture” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a reason clause with “because.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation. Examples include “it supports employment generation and also promote culture,” where the verbs do not agree, and “many people are become employed,” which has an incorrect verb form. In “newly released movies are not directly come,” the verb pattern is also faulty. Some sentences run together, particularly the long example in the first body paragraph, making relationships between clauses harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
