Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the digital era, some people argue that cinemas and theatres are not as much important to them because all of them can entertain themselves online while other say these are still necessary for both economically and culturally for there countries. In my opinion I agree that these kind of entertainments are still important because they helps a country's economy and the cultural values.

In present, we all have internet with us and we can watch anything we want while resting into our homes. These type of people think that the movies presenting in theatres and cinemas are no longer vital. For example, the applications like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other related platforms provide all kind of movies, tv shows, and also kids shows to people at home so they think we are getting entertainment at home why we need to go outside for enjoying any kind of movie.

In past, we do not have any kind of internet and people often do not have cell phones. For movies they have to go theatres and cinemas where they meet alot of people which was more pleasing for them, like watching movies with strangers and enjoying themselves. For example people would have to pay for movies which I think is good for the country economy, which would help country to be better, to have less financial crisis, and to get more money in case to give to any charity.

Both opinions are correct on there sides but in my opinion people should not argue to others who go to cinemas to entertain themselves on big screens and also meet and greet with others. By doing this they would make a lot friends like there social circle would be bigger. I agree that these cinemas are vital.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion that cinemas and theatres remain important, and you include relevant points about online convenience, the economic contribution of ticket sales, and the social experience of watching films together. However, the two views are not discussed with equal clarity: the online-entertainment argument is explained, while the case for cultural importance is barely developed. The economic point is also speculative—claims that cinemas reduce financial crises or fund charity are not explained or supported. Your conclusion repeats your preference but does not fully bring together the economic and cultural reasons. To strengthen the response, explain how cinemas support jobs and local businesses, and how live performance or shared viewing preserves cultural experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a concluding paragraph, and the reader can follow the broad contrast between online viewing and going out. However, progression within the discussion is uneven: the paragraph beginning “In past” shifts from historical habits to economic benefits without a clear link, and the final paragraph introduces making friends rather than summarising the earlier economic and cultural arguments. Connections between ideas are often basic or repetitive, such as repeated use of “For example” and “In my opinion.” Use topic sentences that identify each paragraph’s main point, then develop it in a logical sequence with clearer references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main topic, including relevant terms such as “digital era,” “platforms,” “financial crisis,” and “social circle.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. For instance, “not as much important” would be more naturally expressed as “less important,” and “movies presenting in theatres” is unclear compared with “films shown in cinemas.” There are also repeated general words such as “people,” “important,” and “entertainment,” and spelling errors such as “alot” and “there” for “their.” Build a wider set of accurate terms for economic and cultural effects, and check collocations and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a reason clause with “because.” However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction are frequent, and they sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “these kind of entertainments … they helps,” “other say,” and “In past, we do not have,” where number, verb form and tense are not controlled. The opening sentence also joins several ideas in a way that is difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences before adding complexity: for example, use “These forms of entertainment help…” and keep past-tense descriptions consistently in the past. Review articles and plural forms as well.
