Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern age, where Movies and serials have adapted to the OTTs and online platforms, cinemas and theatres have lost it's grip as entertainment platform. Modernisation has bought the entertainment to the home screen, yet there is a few number who still plan for theatres and cinemas.

On the first hand, Modern generation finds it despicable, going to cinemas, when they can watch the entertainment on their devices. While theater might feel uncomfortable to them, people can get cozy in their beds or couches to watch their favourite shows, without having any irrelevant interruptions. Online entertainment is quite affordable, allowing for the use of a single payment for the duration of several shows.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres plays a crucial role as the medium of entertainment. not just the big screen, but cinema and theatre also offer a experience of entertainment with the loved ones. Cinemas and theaters are also economically efficient; they continuously charge less for a single show at a time than internet platforms, where you have to pay for each individual platform.

Theatres and Cinemas, in my opinion, are more important as entertainment mediums than online platforms since they bridge the gap between our loved ones and allow us to enjoy ourselves while amusing them. For example, watching a show with the entire family and amusing one another strengthens family bonds.

To summarize, modernization has driven theaters and cinemas out of business, while the trend of entertainment is on the rise; nonetheless, both types of entertainment are necessary for people; one entertains you based on your needs, while the other entertains you with your friends and family, making you happier.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both perspectives and state a clear preference for cinemas and theatres, particularly in the paragraph beginning “Theatres and Cinemas, in my opinion”. Your points about convenience, affordability, shared experiences and family bonds are relevant. However, the discussion is uneven: the online-viewpoint paragraph gives several reasons, while the case for theatres relies mainly on social enjoyment and a claim that they are “economically efficient”. That comparison is unclear, since you say cinemas charge less per show without explaining how this outweighs the cost of attending or how venues benefit the economy. The cultural importance in the prompt is also not really explored. Develop each side with more precise explanation or an example, and make the conclusion reflect the main arguments more directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the first hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the contrast, and the family example supports your stated position. This coherent arrangement meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the links between claims are sometimes mechanical, and the final paragraph repeats the contrast rather than drawing the discussion together. The relationship between “economically efficient” and the comparison with online subscriptions is also not made clear. Use more precise transitions and refer back to the specific economic and cultural arguments when concluding.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “online platforms”, “interruptions”, “affordable”, “medium of entertainment” and “family bonds”. These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “bridge the gap” show an attempt to use less common language. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “lost it’s grip” is not a natural expression here, “despicable” does not mean inconvenient or unattractive, and “bought the entertainment to the home screen” is unclear. “Economically efficient” is also not well matched to the point that follows. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than elevated words that do not fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “when”, “while” and “since”, and most of the message remains understandable. There are, however, some recurring errors in agreement, articles, possessives and sentence boundaries. For example, “cinemas and theatres plays” should use a plural verb, “a experience” needs the correct article, and “it’s grip” confuses the contraction with the possessive “its”. The sentence beginning “not just the big screen” is incorrectly started with a lowercase letter and is not smoothly connected to the preceding sentence. Check subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread punctuation and capitalization while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
