Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the digital age some people believe that cinemas and theatres are no longer important because people can watch movies and other entertainment online. However, others think that cinemas are still important for economic and cultural reasons. This essay will discuss both views and I believe that cinemas continue to play important role in society.
On the one hand, watching movies and entertainment in online are convenient and affordable. Firstly, the ticket prices are too expensive, especially when people need to spend money for transportation and snacks. In comparison, the online platforms allow users to watch content at lower prices. Secondly, many employees have busy schedule and had only one day week-off, usually on Sundays. Therefore they may not have enough time to watch movies in theatre. Where they can spend their time with family members.
On the other hand, I believe theatres and cinemas remains important in both economically and culturally. In some countries, watching movies in theatre with friends or family members is a tradition, especially during festivals. It also creates memorable experiences for the people rather than watching movies in online. Furthermore, cinema provides an opportunities for new actors, directors or filmmakers to show their talent. When people watch their movies they get popular and they can built successful careers. This also generates more income and creates employment in film industries.
In conclusion, although watching movies in online is cheaper and more convenient for some people. I believe watching movies in theatre is still important because they support cultural traditions and encourages new talent. Therefore both forms have their own ways to generate income.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the discussion and gives a clear opinion: cinemas remain important for cultural and economic reasons. The online-viewpoint paragraph offers relevant reasons—cost and convenience for people with busy schedules—while the opposing paragraph explains traditions, memorable experiences, opportunities for filmmakers, and employment. These points are on topic, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that online viewing is more affordable could be supported with a specific comparison, and the economic contribution of cinemas is mentioned mainly through employment and income without showing how this works. Develop each main point with a brief explanation or example, and make the economic case as explicit as the cultural one.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion, and the ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped logically. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger progression. However, a few links are mechanical or unclear. “Where they can spend their time with family members” is a fragment and does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The conclusion’s final sentence about both forms generating income also introduces a point that has not been developed. Use clearer sentence links and ensure the conclusion synthesises the arguments already discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “digital age,” “online platforms,” “tradition,” “memorable experiences,” and “employment in film industries.” This range is relevant, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision. Examples include “watching movies and entertainment in online,” “spend money for transportation,” and “creates an opportunities.” Repeated use of “important” and “watch movies” also makes the expression less varied. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural combinations and use more precise terms for the economic and cultural arguments. For instance, you could refer to “cinema attendance,” “box-office revenue,” or “shared viewing experience” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “although watching movies in online is cheaper and more convenient for some people” and the sentence beginning “When people watch their movies.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “cinemas and theatres remains” should use a plural verb, “an opportunities” has an article–plural mismatch, and “they can built” needs the correct verb form. “Where they can spend their time with family members” is also a sentence fragment. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and revise fragments into complete sentences while retaining a mix of sentence structures.
