Student answer (Band 4.5)
IT IS OFTEN BELIEVE THAT THEATRE AND CINEMAS ARE OUTDATED BECAUSE ALL TYPES OF ENTERTIANMENT IS EASILY ACESSIBLE ON INTERNET. BUT, OTHER THINKS THAT THEY ARE CRUCIAL FOR CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC GROWTH. IN MY OPINION, BOTH ARE EQUALLY IMPORTANT. WHILE ALL TYPES OF ENTERTAINMENT ARE OFFERED ONLINE, CINEMAS AND THEATRES ARE CRUCIAL FOR PROMOTION OF CULTURES AND SOCIAL- ECONOMIC GROWTH.
TO BEGIN WITH, TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT MADE EASIER FOR THE INDIVIDUAL TO WATCH MOVIES WITH THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOME. IN ADDITION TO THAT, A PERSON CAN ENJOY FILM OR DOCUMENTARY AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY. FURTHERMORE, THERE IS NO NEED TO STAND IN QUEUE, WHICH IS TIME CONSUMING, TO BUY TICKET. MOREOVER, FUEL CONSUMPTION IS ALSO A FACTOR WHEN GOING TO CINEMA FOR FILM WATCHING. BY STAYING AT HOME, SOCIAL INTERACTION AMONG PEOPLE ARE DECLINING

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You state a position—“both are equally important”—and give some relevant reasons for the online-entertainment view, including convenience, avoiding queues, and reduced fuel use. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the opposing view that theatres and cinemas matter economically and culturally is asserted in the introduction but not explained or supported. Your own opinion is also not developed beyond the opening statement. The response is 136 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 250 words; this leaves too little space to discuss both views and provide relevant examples. To improve, develop each side in separate paragraphs and explain how venues support jobs, local businesses, shared experiences, or cultural expression.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening position followed by a paragraph presenting advantages of watching entertainment at home. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “In addition to that,” and “Furthermore” help signal the sequence of points. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete discussion: there is no developed paragraph for the view supporting theatres and cinemas, and the final point about declining social interaction is not clearly connected to the preceding advantages of staying home. The repeated use of additive transitions also makes the paragraph feel list-like. Organise the essay into an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion, using transitions that show contrast and cause as well as addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “outdated,” “accessible,” “cultural,” “economic growth,” and “social interaction,” which allows the main topic to be understood. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “fuel consumption” and “time consuming.” However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce accuracy, for example “entertianment,” “acessible,” and “promotion of cultures.” Some phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “film watching” and “technology advancement.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language for the missing side of the discussion—such as “employment,” “cultural heritage,” and “shared viewing experience”—would also help you explain the topic more fully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and a complex opening with “While,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, the range of structures is limited, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms make the writing less controlled. For example, “It is often believe” needs a past participle, while “other thinks” has an incorrect verb form and does not agree with its subject. In “all types of entertainment is,” the plural subject requires a plural verb; “social interaction among people are declining” also has a subject–verb agreement error. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and use a wider range of accurate complex sentences to explain reasons and contrast the two views.
