Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is being argued that in this modern age, theartres and cinemas are not as essential as everyone can watch anything online while some people are against this saying they are still important financially and culturally. In this essay, I am going to discuss both of these ideas and conclude it with my opinion.

For some reason, in this modern age, people are quite busy with lives, providing for their families and even for themselves. Taking some time off from all of those responsibilities, planning a day out with friends that includes, watching a movie in a cinema will freshen the mind up. Watching a live show in the theatre surrounded by friends and families seems quite healthy then sitting at home watching on the phone.

While, the other statement which implies on the entertainment being watched online is economically effective. Going to the theatres or cinemas, paying for the seats and then sometimes, sitting with a person that might not be as entertained would effect the rythem of the plan.

It is agreed, that all the entertainment can be watched online and can be enjoyed too but, sitting with a bunch of friends and families might levels up the entertainment. I, personally, think the theatres and cinemas are the best places to meet and enjoy with our friends and families in our societies. It refreshes our mind, sitting beside like minded people and then discussing the aftermath of the movies and live shows is quite enjoyable then sitting at home, watching online.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You introduce both views and state a preference for theatres and cinemas, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the discussion is only partial: the case for online entertainment is reduced mainly to being “economically effective,” without explaining how online access saves money or offers other advantages. The economic and cultural importance of venues is also not really developed; your examples focus more on social enjoyment and relaxation than on their wider economic or cultural role. Your opinion is clear near the end, but the opening promises a conclusion and the essay does not fully establish a balanced, supported position. Develop each side with specific reasons or examples, then explain why your view is stronger.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and a final paragraph, and the reader can identify the two views and your preference. However, progression between ideas is limited, and some links are unclear or mechanical. For example, “For some reason” does not clearly introduce a reason supporting venues, while “While, the other statement” creates an awkward transition rather than a clear contrast. The second body paragraph also shifts to the cost and inconvenience of attending without clearly connecting this to the benefits of online entertainment. The final paragraph repeats the social-enjoyment point instead of bringing the discussion to a developed conclusion. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim and connect supporting details explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “responsibilities,” “economically effective,” “culturally,” and “aftermath,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which can make the reader pause. Examples include “theartres,” “effect the rythem,” “levels up the entertainment,” and “enjoyable then sitting at home.” Repeated use of “friends and families,” “watching,” and “entertainment” also limits precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “attending a performance,” “enhance the experience,” and “the social value of shared viewing.” Check spelling and choose expressions that fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including the opening contrast and the sentence beginning “It is agreed,” but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect ease of reading. For instance, “people are quite busy with lives” is missing a determiner, and “planning a day out with friends that includes, watching a movie” has an awkward clause structure and unnecessary comma. In “sitting with a bunch of friends and families might levels up,” the modal verb is followed by an incorrect verb form. Commas also interrupt clauses in places such as “While, the other statement” and “It is agreed, that.” Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check verb forms and punctuation.
