Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, some people prefer to watch movies in their home online and other prefer to go theater to watch movies. Both has some advantages and disadvantages.

In the recent days people mainly the younger generation are starting to watch movies online in their home rather than going to a theater. This has some advantages like watching in a home is considered as more peaceful. Unlikely in theater like people will be screaming and celebrating on the release of some movie which will disturb others. Watching from your home can be more comfortable. For example you can eat food and watch, pause the movie anytime, rewind it or else watch the half later.

On the other hand, watching movie in a theater is really enjoyable. We can go with our friends or relatives to the movie and enjoy it, which we cannot have while watching it at home. Going to a movie theater sometimes regroups people like, friends can gettogether, families can have a good time together. This will be good break from their routine. Watching the movie release of our favorite movie star on the first day and celebrating it has such a good vibe to it. Some movies can be only have a great feeling only watching it in a theater. For example movie like interstellar, avengers can felt completely different while watching in a movie theater. Its an experiance we cannot have it at home.

In my opinion eventhough both has advantages i would prefer to watch a movie from home rather than warchimg it in a movie theater. The reason is i prefer to watch it with my wish and comfort from home. People cannot disturb me and i have a freedom to pause and play the film whenever i want.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both online viewing and cinema-going, and your preference for watching at home is clear in the final paragraph. The examples about pausing a film and enjoying releases such as *Interstellar* and *Avengers* are relevant. However, the response only partly addresses the task: it focuses mainly on personal convenience and enjoyment rather than explaining the stated economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas. The economic aspect is not developed, and the cultural point is mostly implied through shared experiences. Several ideas, such as cinema being “really enjoyable,” need fuller explanation or support. To strengthen the response, address both views in relation to the prompt’s economic and cultural claims, then explain your opinion with a more developed reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph about online viewing, a paragraph about cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear, and the progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the cinema paragraph moves from socialising to routine breaks, then to fans celebrating a star, without clearly linking these points to cultural or economic importance. The opening also says both options have advantages and disadvantages, but the essay does not consistently develop that comparison. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the main point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “comfortable,” “release,” “routine,” and “celebrating.” Some phrases also convey personal experience effectively, such as “a good vibe.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. Examples include “watch movies in their home,” “regroups people,” and “a great feeling only watching it in a theater.” There are also spelling or form errors such as “experiance” and “warchimg.” Aim for more precise expressions, such as “watch films at home,” “bring people together,” and “a more immersive experience.” Vary repeated words like “watch” and “movie” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main points using both simple sentences and some attempts at longer structures, including “For example you can eat food and watch, pause the movie anytime…” and “The reason is i prefer to watch it with my wish and comfort from home.” However, the range remains limited, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Examples include “other prefer,” “Both has,” “people mainly the younger generation are starting,” and “Some movies can be only have a great feeling.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the missing comma after “For example.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
