Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent days, there are countless useful inventions, however these inventions also bring some drawbacks. One controversial debate is availability of entertainment online. Some people argue that due to the readily available material online, audiences are less attracted to the theatres and they have became irrelevant, while others argue that despite these reasons, cinema still hold a very important role. I believe that both mediums are equally crucial in modern society for the growth of industry.
To begin with, due to the development of digital entertainment channels, most of the trending material is available so easily on online platforms like youtube or other video streaming applications. These platforms provide an easy path for viewers, which is beneficial for both the audience as well as the creators, because they earn from these applications like many vloggers are earning while creating content online. With these developments, younger generation are also attracted to watch theatres and cinema online, which would not have been feasible to attract to physical shows.
On the hand, the role of cinemas and theatres are still very significant. They provide a valuable opportunity for people to spend quality time with their family or friends. Since, audience visit the physical location to experience a great time with their loved ones, the cinemas generate significant revenues and help grow the economy with entertainment industry like popcorns and fast food chains serve food in the cinemas. Furthermore, the theatres provide an amazing platform to promote cultural activites and also helps to potray a soft image of the society. For example, shows which display the culture background of the society help create awareness among the young generation.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that entertainment industry must develop online viewership along with the preservation of the traditional theatres and cinemas, which would create a sustainable industry that is beneficial economically and also promote culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear position: online entertainment offers convenient access and opportunities for creators, while cinemas and theatres retain social, economic and cultural value. The examples of vloggers, family outings, food sales and cultural performances are relevant. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally: the online paragraph focuses mainly on convenience and creators’ earnings, and the claim that younger people are attracted to watching theatres online is unclear. Your economic and cultural points about physical venues are more specific, though the cultural example could be explained further. To strengthen the response, clarify the comparison between online viewing and attending venues, and extend each main reason with a more precise example or explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from online access to the continuing role of venues is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical or inaccurate: “On the hand” is incomplete, and “Since” at the start of a sentence is followed by a comma that disrupts the connection to the main clause. The relationship between the online platforms and younger audiences is also difficult to follow. Use transitions that express the precise contrast or result, and make references such as “these developments” clearly point to a specific idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “readily available material,” “significant revenues,” “quality time” and “promote cultural activities.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, including “they have became irrelevant,” “watch theatres and cinema online,” and “soft image of the society.” There are also spelling errors in “activites” and “potray,” and “youtube” should be capitalised as “YouTube.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more idiomatic topic language, such as “stream films online,” “attend a cinema,” and “project a positive image of society,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “Since” and “which,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “They provide a valuable opportunity for people to spend quality time with their family or friends.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation recur: “they have became” should be “they have become,” “cinema still hold” needs subject–verb agreement, and “the role of cinemas and theatres are” has a singular-plural mismatch. The opening sentence also joins two independent clauses with a comma. These errors show that complex forms are not yet consistently controlled. Review agreement and verb forms, and use full stops or conjunctions to join complete clauses.
